It makes you wonder though if TNT or DHL or whoever bought RM - would they allow the others to have the same access and at the same price........... I'd better my bottom dollar there would be enormous changes in the pricing structure and access to the service.
Surely these changes would have to come first..no-one wants a pig in a poke on the "off chance" that changes would be made.
So....who has had the nod and the wink?....it shouldn't take long to find out. :whistle

Dead right DV , name one private concern that would entertain carrying out work for a direct competitor for a loss :chuckle .
So any sell off brings a sticky problem. DSA in it's present form would have to go. But the constant refrain from all concerned was that this system of DSA was inevitable for market liberalisation and was an EU requirement with any failure to comply attracting punitive fines.
Given that RM is such a basket case and the market is going down the pan it might be worth you and a couple of mates getting together to put in a bid . The Condems might even offer you a sweetener to take it away, bit like BL or was it Rover or both :chuckle

You make a good point ft BUT I strongly suspect that once sold, whoever had it would soon make inroads by saying that they could not maintain the agreed standards at current levels of income and would have to.........whatever................ or close the business. Now what would a government do faced with that proposition, refuse the new proposals or give in?

I will strike only for better terms and conditions of employment, and decent, above inflation, no strings attached wage rises.

I will not strike to preserve a company that is, as far as I'm concerned, privatised in all but name anyway.

Nov.5th 2009 changed me, Hayes & Ward believed "saving Christmas", entering into talks which led to worsening terms and conditions, what with a forced increase in junk mail, our Saturday finishes forcibly made longer, and then lying bare-faced about having met the "aspirations" of postal workers, means I will not voluntarily lose money because Hayes & Ward want to use us as some sort of political football, no, they can both f**k right off. :cuppa

Might explain why they are going nuts over the idea of retiring at 62, unlike the do-nothing Brits facing an eventual retirement age of 70, might it not? :cuppa

Your dead right! all the managers will want the industrial action this time around, while we are striking and loosing money again, the mangers will be working and getting paid as usual, and we will be the donkeys doing their dirty work to keep them in a job. DOM was telling me (or Ex DOM) was telling me last week that he has dropped down to a Lino because its so stressful and not worth it anymore, plus Managers are ready for the chop after Christmas..

hopefully privatisation if it comes brings two things,
1) being able to charge our DSA customers a realistic price for delivering their crap and
2)end of the universal service obligation , if that happens then we'll be back at the top where we belong

and charging dhl etc a realistic price would soon put a lot of the fly by night operators who couldnt deliver a tenth of the crap they dump on our doorsteps out of business

The only place youll be at the top of is a cliff once youve read your pay slip. The private sector thinks
we are grossly overpaid.

we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, all i'd like to see is a level playing field and not one in which we are constantly "pissing in the wind" , would it not satisfy you seeing the likes of uk mail etc trying to deliver their own mail and being shown up for the leeches that they are, i resent every piece of dsa we deliver because i know that its designed to undermine us rather than the official government line of "in the interests of competition"

What was it the management of Royal Mail said.......................oh yes........overpaid and underworked................it would seem it is a widely held opinion.

What isn't widely known is how hard we actually do have to work, how many private cars are in use and how much UNPAID work is done to make the system work. So anyone buying the RM without the use of CDVs and HCTs etc would have a helluva time making it work but that bridge has almost already been crossed. What we have to ask is - how much the government are prepared to spend to make the 2010 and beyond modernisation a reality only to give it away to some buyer.

Refresh my memory, dvb. Wasn't that a line that Crozier came out with?
Now there's a man who's opinions on being overpaid and underworked you could only learn from.

Yes indeed, Adam Crozier, a man who brought us almost to greatness, who I greatly admire ;liar
