THESE Royal Mail workers have pledged to deliver a bumper wedge of cash for Maggie's.
They are part of a team of five taking part in the Paras' 10 which is described as the ultimate in ten-mile endurance races on Sunday.
The course, at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire, is where troops from the elite Parachute Regiment prepare for their operations.
Carrying 35lbs on their back, they have to march through woodland, water and up hills.
But the five men, from the Royal Mail centre in Padge Road, Beeston, are unfazed by the gruelling challenge that awaits them.
Some of them took part in the race last year – and Mick O'Connor and Mark Loughran did it as part of their paratrooper training when they were in the Army.
While troops must complete the course in one hour and 50 minutes, civilians are allowed three hours.
Also taking part are Kevin Dickenson, Bob Stone and Steph Lees.
Because all five are members of the Royal Mail's health and fitness club, they are in good shape.
However, training is arduous and two of the original seven-man team have had to drop out due to injury.
Mick, 62, from Mapperley, said: "I did it when I was 17 for my training with the 2nd Battalion."
Last year he did the course in just over two hours.
"We keep fairly fit regardless of our advancing years. It's absolutely fantastic, like being back in the Army, " he said.
"There are wooded areas and you have to run through a tank wash. You can be up to your waist in water if you don't time it right."
Mick is chairman of the Parachute Regiment in Nottingham, which has pledged £50 towards fundraising and the Royal Mail will match-fund up to £200.
The following week a dozen employees from Mansell Construction in Nottingham are taking part in the Great North Run, the world's biggest half marathon.
None of the team, called the Mansell Maniacs, have participated in the Newcastle to Gateshead run before.
And five of them are complete novices.
Runner Clare Lee said: "It will be a massive challenge for all of us."
The construction company, which has been one of Maggie's most dedicated supporters, raised £1,900 at a five-a-side football tournament in June.

Nottingham Squash Rackets Club's annual squashathon, which took place on Saturday, was this year renamed the Millward Squashathon in memory of former member Andy Millward, who died from cancer last November.
It was his illness and support for Maggie's that first sparked the idea for the event in 2007.
