Crewe closure leads to "second class service"

First-class post getting second-class service since closure of Crewe sorting office, claim residents

FIRST class letters posted in Crewe are taking up to six days to arrive at ‘CW’ addresses since the Weston Road sorting office closed.

Royal Mail has apologised to customers after admitting there may be ‘some slight disruption to services as things settle down’.

But Robin and Joan Charlton, of Pit Lane, Hough, are furious. Their granddaughter had to wait four days for her GCSE results.
Mrs Charlton said: “If you want to send a letter or card in Crewe to someone living in the Crewe area, you have now to allow at least six or seven days for it to be delivered.

“Now that the sorting office on Weston Lane is closed it is now sent to Warrington via Manchester.”

She added: “My neighbour’s local family posted two birthday cards on the Monday for his Wednesday birthday. They were eventually delivered the following Tuesday.”

Mrs Charlton’s neighbour, who is partially sighted, used to get the talking newspaper delivered every Friday – as it has been for years. Now it arrives on a Saturday or later.

“And my granddaughter had arranged for her GCSE results to be sent to my house because she was on holiday and they didn’t arrive until the Saturday,” said Mrs Charlton.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: “Since mail processing work transferred from Crewe to Warrington last month staff have been working hard to ensure the change went as smoothly as possible, however it is possible that there may be some slight disruption to services as things settle down.

We have put in place a number of contingency plans and we will continue to monitor the new arrangements to ensure our customers receive the same high level of service they have come to expect from Royal Mail.

“We apologise to any customers who have been inconvenienced.”

the "contingency plans" are to divert as much as they can to Manchester or Preston, flood the place with agency staff, and they still fail! This is with just 50% of the mail warrington is intended to handle, as the bulk of the Liverpool mail is still be transferred in.

yep firefighting / crisis management or more like Great War General ...." over the top boys " management ......nothing ever changes ....I've had interesting chats with people who've worked for the parcel carriers , parcelfarce itself ....and they just can't believe how badly RM is geared ....and how some of the logistics arrangements are so wasteful / inefficient / badly planned .....you can see failures coming a few hours in advance .

Yeah sorry, mornings, days and lates used to clear, there was some slackers on nights.

Well done for the solidarity there "mate", not hard to see why royal mail won and crewe lost...

ain't rising to it m8 ( only call you that as I don't know your name) .... Nothing was meant as an insult..., but I know how text can come across .., I just know nights were totally overwhelmed.... I know, I was on the floor, adding to that, there were and always will be slackers, but I hope that wasn't pointed at me..? Slackers were never picked up on, managers had their favourites and twice an hour 10 mins plus smokers were never pulled up .... So yeah I take that on board, but the majority worked their butts off to try n clear, I was between shifts, and I know lates also didn't clear on many occasions .
