RESIDENTS wanting to mail a letter without going into Halifax's town-centre post office have been told: Sorry, but you can't.

Royal Mail chiefs have condemned the post boxes in the wall of the Commercial Street branch, saying they pose a safety risk to collection workers.

Customers wanting to post letters must now go into the post office during opening hours or visit nearby postboxes until a new double pillar box is installed.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "The postboxes outside Halifax Post Office have been taken out of service for health and safety reasons.

"They are damaged inside and in a state of disrepair, so it was identified they could cause problems for our collection staff.

"We apologise to customers for any inconvenience and we plan to install a new, double pillar box at the branch as soon as possible."

He said customers could use the postbox at Woolshops Shopping Centre, with a 6.30pm final collection time, and Halifax Delivery Office in Gaol Lane, with a 7.30pm final collection time.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

How badly damaged are they that they are taken out of service? Any of the boxes I empty are made from steel thick enough to stop a 50 cal round at close range :hmmmm

Chances are they are not damaged, anyone who been to a BO will see those boxes stuck on the wall, they look like cupboards.
Apparantlety due to H&S they can't be used, collected from, there is another story of them on here.
BO's round my way have them boxed in and a double post box put outside, just like this stories lot.
