I've did flexi hours in an office once only they forgot to give me a swipecard so I came in at 10am took a 2hr lunch and left at 4pm. God I miss those hourscatch wrote:A lot of local councils have it, and we've got it at my work - although I've only had for three weeks so not much experience yet.whitetrash wrote: Sounds dodgy as f**k to me this flexi lark, Anybody got any comments on it???
For a 9-5 job it can be alright - you can get upto 18 days off a year by adding up 10 minutes here and there of overtime, and if you've been out on the piss, you can come in by 10 without getting into trouble (and leave from 4 if you need to as well). Since most people in 9-5 jobs work a little bit over their official hours pretty often, you generally gain rather than lose. But because you have to swipe in and swipe out (or we do anyway), if you're 15 minutes late in you lose that time rather than it getting written off, so I'm not sure it's that much of a benefit really apart from being able to claim the time back in bulk.
I think councils do it so people can take extra days off without having to throw a sickie - means they get the time out of you in the long run. Doesn't stop people from throwing sickies of course, but I reckon it takes the edge of statistics compared to places that just have normal 9-5.
Can't see it being a good thing in RM though with job and finish etc.

Sorry to be thick but whats the USO?robmacca wrote:It's worth remembering as well that the USO means we have to have the mail delivered by 2pm at the latest each afternoon, so RM need to be careful about how late we are getting out to the rounds etc.............
Cheers for the replies so far, seems like every office is different but the tactics of RM are the same!
Cheers

My theory is still that rm will bring this later start in by exec action 13th August is the date being banded around.....they know this will provoke some sort of reaction from the workers somewhere in the system,ie a refusal to obey an instruction>>>suspension>>>and a walk out by fellow workers, quickley spreading nationwide=unofficial IA,then its all a new ball game'
What will happen then i aint got a clue, having said all that, the walkouts in scotland could see things spiraling out of control before 13th August.

These later starts they say are caused because the wagons can go as fast as they used to.
Well why not set them off on their journeys earlier.

im sick of hearing that tripe. its all part of the big plan to get everyone working harder for less money. if they wanted to these new lorry regulations could mean nothing - mail could still arrive as it does now. another mail in the coffin of RM care for customers. the number one thing i hear from my customers is they want their mail earlier. not at the time i deliver now, and certainly not even later than that. how their faces look when i inform them that soon it will be even later. perhaps telling people about this will hammer home the message this dispute is not just about pay. the media havent done us any favours in that respect. RM dont want to know about joe bloggs in something avenue. its all money money. a total disgrace.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:These later starts they say are caused because the wagons can go as fast as they used to.

I totally agree, in my opinion, RM would prefer to bring the strike to a head in August, before the volume of mail picks up in September and the later starts etc would be just the issue to force action.disheartened wrote:USO=universal service obligation

Could be a real tipping point and an avenue that we need to look into more seriously as this is a vital "string" in the pay dispute.

Hello fellow posties,
So after reading the letter on the CWU website http://www.cwu.org/news.asp?step=3&NID=1772 it looks like the the battle will get even more intense.Royal mail intend to bring in the later start time 13th August, now i am sure i read on this forum or the other one that this had been put on the back burner for the time being,
So if lets say they take the delivery staff from a 5.15 start to a 6.15 start........are they going to have bouncers on the doors saying "you aint coming in till 6.15 mate".Methinks even bigger trouble looms.
Unsure whats going to happen to me and my duty as i am a Collections & Network driver and take the mail to a delivery office,i am a 5.15 start and leave for my first run at 6.00am.
The mail center i work also has a large delivery section.
