Estate agents will tell you this street is full of character and... leafy.
But few would be green with envy for anyone living nearby.
Neighbours are trying to force owner David Alvand to cut down his 10 excessively overgrown leylandii cypress trees, which are now 35ft high.
Retired dock worker Roger Palfrey, 71, who lives opposite, said yesterday: “I don’t know how he can see anything inside his house because it must be so dark.”
Another neighbour said: “You have to clamber through the foliage to reach the house. The postie had enough and said it was too dangerous so Alvand cut a path through for the man to deliver the mail.
“The trees are an eyesore. They block out sunlight and make the street look bad.”
Next-door neighbour Roger Coath, 49, said: “He could at least cut them down to a level below the top windows.
“I don’t want to say much because this is a legal situation with the council now.”
Residents have complained formally under the Anti-social Behaviour Act.
It is thought civil engineer Mr Alvand planted the trees soon after he moved into the three-bedroom semi in 1991. He also has shorter leylandii in his back garden.
This is the second time Mr Alvand has faced a protest over his use of the land.
Residents in the Plymouth street won a 12-year battle to force him to reduce the height of a 12ft-high concrete “Berlin wall” around his property in 2003.
At one stage he was threatened with jail and the dispute cost the council £20,000.
Mr Alvand, 66, said yesterday: “I am a law-abiding citizen. I have suffered for 20 years being chased over my wall and trees. It’s my land.
“The neighbours have a vendetta against me.”
Plymouth City Council has launched an investigation. A spokesman said: “Tree officers have contacted Mr Alvand. He would like to explore mediation with neighbours.”
