mail centre closures list out september/october time ?

Looking at them on Google Earth (I can't find Truro on there, does Truro actually have an MC or is it just a very large DO?) I don't think any of them have any space around to expand and Bristol took in all the BA and TA area. I wonder if one possibility is Bristol stays but takes on some more work from another area. Exeter, Plymouth and Truro get merged into a new super mail centre, somewhere by the M5 and Dorset, Portsmouth and Southampton get merged into a new super mail centre somewhere by the M27.

Where is SWDC, is it in the same building as Bristol MC or is it somewhere else?

SWDC and Bristol MC are two different offices, but both will stay. Bristol Airport will cease in Jan 2011 and Exeter will probably downsize it's operation at the airport. I think that Southampton and Portsmouth will merge and Southampton will move from it's current location. Dorset MC will remain and will probably take on SP mail from Southampton. Dorset MC, Southampton and Portsmouth also run mail into Bournemouth Airport.

Has anyone considered that PO could go into Gatwick MC and SO into Dorset MC?

If the preferred option is a new MC then Southampton is the likely location with it's road links with Dorset and Portsmouth both closing. It's very unlikely that a new build would leave Dorset open aswell due to the short distance between the two MCs.

In the Midlands area I've heard that Derby will close, and Shrewsbury will be merged with NWMMC.

Teams made up of union officials from Hemel,Stevenage and Watford made their alternitive presentations as to why their mail centers should stay as they are,i believe this Tuesday 7th Sep will see the union go to London to hear Royal Mails plans for the future of said mail centers.

Will the union still be gagged under the no tell clause paper they signed earlier this year or will the workers actually be able to know their future?

At the moment all 3 mail centers have delivery offices in their buildings as well,are Royal Mail now opposed to having processing/delivery sharing buildings nationwide?

This not knowing one's future is certainly making tempers frayed with some of the work force.

With Luton mail having gone to Watford and Milton Keynes having gone to the South Midlands hub in Northampton, it would have perhaps been practical to leave things as they currently stand for at least the next two years. Regretably, Royal Mail policy differs considerably from where I view things and the speculation points towards a new multi-purpose mail centre in the Hemel Hempstead area, which is of course bad news for our colleagues in Stevenage and Watford, as well as those who transferred into Watford from Luton.

For now, I will keep an open mind until the official verdict is announced, though, it goes beyond saying, we are in for another round of upheaval which places great anxiety on staff in the workplaces and even more so in their family environments.

I was fortunate in the sense the mail centre I work in escaped the axe, so to speak. Other units were not so lucky and it caused no end of problems. Less fortunate is the fact that I work in a mail centre which has not really made a good go of it, and is declining rather than progressing.

Why are deliveries being moved around,i thought it was mailcentre closures that were being dealt with under the 2010 agreement

Deliveries will be moved around till there's no one left to move,agreement or not.

Currently whether we like it or not Royal Mail are on a treadmill to disaster. Whilst they continue to have a huge pension defecit , regulation , unfair competition and no ability to lend money to invest in the company they will not break out of it and managers will just continue to manage the decline , cutting costs.

Tell me what the union is going along with ? The union would love to keep every mail centre open but you know that thanks to automation, downstream access and the one outward pass that is not realistic. So what do we do ? Do we turn a blind eye and allow Royal Mail to close them one by one or do we fight every closure nationally.

What do you suggust the union do ? Other than protect the members from the threat of compulsory redundancy.
