A number of reports have been received concerning the behaviour of Royal Mail Managers, together with Managers in Post Office Counters and Cash in Transit with respect to Industrial Action by our members.
UNITE is the Union that came into existence on May 1st 2007. UNITE brings together the Transport & General Workers Union and AMICUS.
UNITE consists of two sections : UNITE - T&GWU Section and Unite - AMICUS
Section. It currently has two Joint General Secretaries - Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley.
UNITE is now a legal entity but is in transition to harmonise its structures - a process that will be familiar to CWU activists. UNITE - TGWU section organises within TNT. UNITE - Amicus section organises within Deutsch Post and the Post Office - better known as CMA.
We have received good support from UNITE at two functions organised by the CWU. Tony Woodley spoke at a reception for MPs on June 18th and again at a Lobby on July 24th - on both occasions he was well received.
Whatever the difficulties and tensions we have with members of our sister union, we want to deal with them in a forthright but comradely way. To this end, would Branches who have experience of activities that are not conducive to good trade union relations, provide a written report to the General Secretary's Department. In providing such reports it should be borne in mind that names, dates, locations, and the specific problem need to be detailed. All such reports will then be raised with UNITE.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
I don't want to deal with them in a 'comradely way'. How can they imagine anyone crossing a picket line and scabbing can be treated in a 'comradely way'. Simpson is a bloody Stalinist anyway and they've got a great recoed of crapping on the working class whenever they get the opportunity. He'll be right at home with the scab DUM's and screws. Woodley and Simpson are both members of the Labour Party. It says it all for me.
The Industrial Workers of the World. The union whose members never scab!
"The working class and the employing class have nothing in common."
Didn't the CMA want to merge with the CWU a few years ago? If I recall correctly the CWU leadership at the time (probably Johnson & Keggie) wanted it to go ahead, but Conference qute rightly told them where to stick it. Could you imagine having that bunch of backstabbing strike breakers in our Union?
So they've gone into Amicus/Unite - let's hope some basic principles of trade union solidarity can be instilled into them, but somehow I doubt it.
