If you work in a car plant and the production line breaks down for any lengh of time and you are short of your target no of cars you all work overtime no choice until target is reached no choice.
Secondly dismissals, conduct charges don't go to the court of the land they are held inhouse under RM procedures and guilt in this scenario is totally different to a courts idea of proven guilt.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

If you are experienced on the round then it would be expected of you to tell the dom before you go out but what happens when there is an unforseen event such as a road closed and you cannot get access to it for a few hours and you want finished on your time.
They may try to sack you but as Eric said they wouldnt have a prayer at a tribunal.
Yeah go to a tribunal and win your case and get a £5000 compensation payout (being generous).
But no job back for your months/years of unfair treatment and stress and worry to get to tribunal stage.
Only 1 winner in 99% of RM conduct cases/dismissals.
Moral of story don't do anything stupid to give them opportunity and don't think you are untouchable.

Sorry, I disagree. They may BULLY and HARASS you but any FORCED overtime is illegal unless you signed up for it and even then no more than 48Hrs (regardless of how short you are on targets). Peace work is something else entirely but still cannot be forced upon you.
I work to live, I do not live to work.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Ever worked in a modern car plant in this country (eg non unionised, works councils, not the great ones of the seventies like British Leyland & Ford).
Contracts stipulate reasonable overtime must be worked when required.
Production line goes everyone stays till it stops. You don't like it you get another job.
Don't believe me if you like I've only been there and experienced it. Unfortunately never went to Employment Law school to know it was all against the law so couldn't possibly happen.

Spot on post here by gb93, this is right on the money. RM are finding it cheaper to sack full time staff than lay them off.
RM's legal bods will throw every dirty trick to get your ET case struck out should you get that far of course. And even if you win your case RM do not have to give you your job back (they just have to pay a bit more)
