Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios has bagged a deal to design a home for the British Postal Museum & Archive in Swindon.
The £18 million scheme will involve moving the museum’s archive from two sites at the Royal Mail’s Mount Pleasant sorting office in north London and another location in Essex to a new home at the former Great Western Railway works in the Wiltshire town.
The Grade II* listed building has been declared ‘At Risk’ by English Heritage and FCB will also be required to bring the new home up to scratch.
It will hold a vast collection of postal artefacts stretching from every British stamp issued since the Penny Black through to posters, photographs along with red pillar boxes and postal vehicles.
A phased opening is due to begin in 2013.

2013? Just in time for the privatisation fest - it can be used not just as a museum but also a mausoleum, a testament if you like to a once great and proud service.
