Re: early shift allowance
DSA is dawn shift starts at 2.01am finishes at 0400
ESA is Early Shift Allowance and there is ESA 1 and ESA2
ESA 1 is 0401 to 0500
ESA 2 is 0501 to 0530
ESA 1 and 2 along with DTD monies now form the delivery supplement.
When 0600 starts came along CWU and its members voted to retain ESA as grandfather rights whilst the ESA money was looked at as part of 2007 agreement with the proviso that we would retain grandfather rights if if no agreement was reached.
As part of the 2010 talks agreement was reached and subsequently endorsed by the CWU membership. Therefore we lose ESA payments but the monies stay in the overall paybill as part of the supplement.

Yes I know that.... But WHY was ESA sacraficed upon the high alter , yet at the same time DSA was allowed to continue for a select band of members ?Big Daz wrote:DSA is dawn shift starts at 2.01am finishes at 0400

After all we all pay dues to the same union, yet some members allowances have been cut while others remain in place.
I suppose thats the "winners & loosers" that dinko was talking about.
The FACT is that this union has gone from a union who negotiated improved rights & benifits for its members to a union that is hellbent on giving up hard fought for and won rights, all for a seat at the top table for a select few - THE COST OF THIS SEAT ? - Our Terms, conditions and DECLINEING take home pay.

Re: early shift allowance
Just to clarify the DSA has not been protected and as far as I can see from the LTB just the difference between the higher ESA and the DSA:
The question that I suppose could be asked that if they now pay the difference (on a protected basis) between ESA and DSA then why are they not doing the same for the higher ESA against the lower ESA. But as the agreement was specific about ESA that is one battle that is unwinnable, RMs problem was that DSA was not specifically mentioned. Therefore, employees receiving Dawn Shift Grandfather Rights' payments before they were ceased in June, will now receive an additional £11.18 per week on a personal rights basis.

Re: early shift allowance
I am more interested in where the other £12.37 from the DSA went.
If it wasn't part of the agreement who said RM could nick it?

If you look at the time dawn shift start being paid from I would hazerd a guess that was part of the thinking, how could you have OPG's in that time period switching to grandfather rights? Grandfather rights came to be because start times for delivery workers in the 0401 to 0530 period moved out of the ESA payment window.
CWU proposed to its members that grandfather rights and looking to do something different with ESA money was the solution to not being at work during the ESA time slot and the membership decided to accept that proposal!

Exactly, important principles are at stake here.
We still havent been told why and how the difference of opinion came to be and also if both sides feel there anyt lessons to be learned from this fiasco.

Re: early shift allowance
Well, the truth is maisy, I was once picked up by a bunch of postperson thugs and put in a tub and sent freewheeling down one of the aisles - for which I got into trouble as being the chief instigator, just because they happened to be close colleagues of mine, it was suggested I had put them up to it - as if. Anyway that particular manager didn't like me, actually none of them did, but he kept getting me and a few of my colleagues into the office on a regular basis. At one point we were removed from the main area and put in a room by ourselves, about 7 of us, well when I say one point it was for about two years until the new building was readymaisymoo04 wrote:hahah like that dv wait till the hcts come in you will get locked in one pal
