Postmen on the pull

POSTMEN in Ballymoney will be on the pull - literally - next month to raise funds for a leading charity.

The twenty or so employees based at High Street are currently organising their annual van pull in aid of the Ballymoney branch of Cancer Research.

The date for the event is Saturday, September 4 at 2.30 p.m. when volunteers will start from outside the Post Office premises in High Street.

The route will take them around the town centre and along the way they are hoping that the general public will dig deep to support the effort.

And if the previous three years are anything to go by, a four figure sum will be raised.

One of the postmen involved told the Times that if they got the same amount as last year, the figure generated over the four year period would be £10,000 - an indication of the support they get.

In addition to the van pull, a number of postmen will be at the Portrush road roundabout on the day hoping to appeal to the generosity of passing motorists. They will all be wearing Cancer Research bibs.

A golfing competition at the Manor Hotel, Kilrea, will also swell funds and on the Friday before the pull, a collection will take place at the gates of the Post Office.

Mr. Mervyn Ferris, chair of the local branch of Cancer Research, has praised the postmen for their efforts.

"We greatly appreciate what these people are doing for us. We value all contributions from whatever source and we certainly want to ensure everyone that the money is an invaluable boost in the search for a cure for this awful disease," Mr. Ferris said.

Most of the boys are in tip top condition, but it is rumoured that one Sammy Graham has been in training for a month just to make sure he can do his bit along with the rest!

And what happens if one of them goes sick the following week with a bad back?
Will the DOM be understanding?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Thought by the title of this thread that DGP & DVB had finally pulled :chuckle
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Yes I am married. Why let some poor woman go through life with having nothing to moan about

Im just a novice :Very Happy Only 13 years married but nobody told me I had to pay for her in increasing installments or that exciting lingerie was replaced with thick woolen pants, socks, jumper, hat & tights after 6 months. Keep thinking I've wandered onto the set of last of the summer wine.
