And not all drivers have PDAs anyway.Caniel wrote:Aren't us walking posties supposed to be getting a PDA eventually?clashcityrocker wrote:Given that the drivers have PDAs - doesn't it make sense for them to do all the Special Deliveries?
In that way we use the technology at hand, solve the problem of confirmed or not and save the walking postie any grief.

Don't use your phones, and why should you go to a stink phone box full of spit and smelling of urine and out of your way to reverse a charge, just tell them you either give me a phone with credit on or you don't take the reggies, stand your ground, and what's more record your manager when he is demanding you to phone in, people that phone in now or text need shooting, they are playing in to their hands once again. RM moved the goal post let them deal with it, put the time to 2 30 would be a option.

Re: Confirming Registered Items
We have been told we have to phone in before 13.00hr to tell them if we have delivered our specials, they even told us that they would discipline us if we did'nt,we then got into the realms of tell us where it says we have to use our own phones for the firm, they could not force us,BT have over the years been removing phone boxes so to be able to phone in we would have to leave our walks to do so,they then bought us mobile phones to take with us but they would not buy 1 for each of us,we have had so many arguments about it they have givin up they now phone us on our mobiles which takes forever, they moved our start times for the 3rd time but they never looked at the fact that they would not be able to do all the specials and the conformation work, the cage staff have even been given letters to attend councelling for failed items which we have had to deal with through the grievance path,so it dont ever seem to stop!

Re: Confirming Registered Items
I touched on this in another thread a while back which died a death.
Why oh why did you lot when SDD came in not put all the reg on the vans like a lot of us did.
You've f****d yourselves.
Also a manger telling me off for not using MY phone to confirm them!!!
Ohhh the things i could say to him!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Straight4ward Its people like you that has ruined it, bet you come in early as well, yes sir, I’ll do that sir, no problem sir,, the fact of the matter is say you have a decent phone worth £200 or £100 and you get it out on the street to text in or phone in and it gets snatched, will Royal Mail reimburse you with the same phone, I don't think so, so think of the other ways it can affect you rather than claim your precious 10p or a £1 back, people in my area would watch you with a £200 Blackberry for instance and see what pocket you put it in...It will be skin off your nose if it gets nicked...

Why?POSTMAN wrote: You've f****d yourselves.
Time was allocated in the SDD revision for the walking guys to deliver them, they don't obviously take the big ones and in the seven years since they haven't had a problem doing them other than this confirmation s**t which is a business operational issue not a revision issue.
We certainly don't feel f****d over this....i could give you a long list of issues we have been f****d over if you want.

Re: Confirming Registered Items
We haven't had a problem? Apart from the really awkward sized ones that some office-bound PHG has decided should go out with a postman. Usually it will be your second-last call so you have to carry it round with you all morning (and you are 99.5% certain they won't be in any way)fishtank wrote: and in the seven years since they haven't had a problem doing them other than this confirmation s**t
Then there is the lino who thinks it is OK to give a postman 11 SD on Tuesday because the maximum (8) is only a guideline that doesn't count when it suits him.
What is the point of having the technology if we don't use it to maximum effect?

The technology wasn't there when SDD came in which is fair enough, just common sense..........................in my office at least.

Just to correct you on a couple of your misapprehensions,
I don’t come in early.
I don’t own a Blackberry or similar and, even if I did, my household insurance policy would cover me were it to be stolen.
I have had my current phone for a number years. It’s about as basic as you can get and didn’t even cost £20 when new. LOL.
There is precious little inconvenience to me in phoning them through and I don’t regard it as a hardship.
As for me “ruining the job” for 120,000 posties? I had no idea that I had that much influence.

The office bound phg and the lino are the problem CCR not the system...as for the technology...well we'll all have access to a PDA shortly so it won't matter......unless you don't get to the address until 3pm.
