Say "no" to junk mail, residents urged by Council

RESIDENTS in Warwickshire, including Shipston, Bidford and the surrounding villages, are being urged to say "no" to junk mail.

The county’s Waste Partnership wants local people to sign up to the mailing preference service to cut back on the amount of junk mail they get through their doors.

Warwickshire County Council’s environment portfolio holder Alan Cockburn said: "The amount of junk mail we all get through our doors is crazy. It’s great to see that Warwickshire residents are able to take action by signing up to the mailing preference service.

"People also need to remember to sign back up to the mailing preference service every couple of years to make sure the junk mail doesn’t start creeping back up."

Other tips on reducing the amount of junk mail received include ticking the "opt out" box when filling product warranties, competitions and catalogue forms to make sure details are not passed on to other companies; choosing not to have your name shown on the public copy of the electoral roll, as it is sold to mailing firms; asking Royal Mail not to deliver unaddressed mail by writing to: Door-to-Door Opt-Out, Royal Mail, Room 130, Wheatstone House, Wheatstone Road, Swindon, SN3 5JW; and placing a "no junk mail" sticker on your letter box.
