Why should the p/t staff feel let down by the f/timers? The problem is MANAGEMENT, they are the ones paid to sort these things out, not the full timers!.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

DIVIDE AND RULE people. It happens in my DO, all the meetings are split by full time and part time, that is IF part timers are briefed about any changes as the last couple of meetings we've been left out of altogether. Play the f/t against the p/t, no trust, no unity and therefore no industrial action. Its only to be expected that when (in our office at least) the full timers have to prep the p/t'ers walks as well as their own they feel aggrieved. Its also only to be expected that when we p/t'ers feel aggrieved when we arrive to discover that our walks arent prepped, we leave to do lapsing and return to them still not fully prepped (as per one of the meetings we werent invited to) and no sign of the f/t'ers.

Any other tricks employed at your offices?

Stop seeing it as a negative thing and see the positive side.
The more indoor work you have left for you the less outdoor work you have time to do.
This includes hanging around waiting for acceleration.
Don't start early, take your breaks, prep your D2D properly and if you don't want to work over your time....don't.
Relax and don't be pressured into doing things you don't want to.

Stormproof hit the nail on the head, it's a MANAGEMENT problem. We let them get off far too easy, I love that term "Self Managing Teams" that means, "You Lot sort it out I'm not bothered!" I'd love to I'm sure we could all find a way to take 40hrs of unproductive time out of the office!.

All PTers are suffering from the same problem Post Bitch, but as Postman Plod says it's a divide and rule system. Lets try not to argue amongst ourselves, takes a lot of discipline I know. If you don't want the OT try starting your clock from when you come into the office. If it takes you an hour and a half to prep and bag the walk tell the DIM, right you've got three and a half hours, or whatever, and then I'll be cutting off.

I bet if you do it a couple of times he'll make sure that duties ready to rock the next time you come in. That's if he wants you to take the whole lot out. :dance I agree that PTers are treated like 2nd Class (excuse the pun) Posties are often not involved in WTL sessions (they're too early) and will have very little input into any Revision Changes. CWU where are you?? :evil/mad

The only thing i would say about your office is that your times are screwed up.
If the full-timers finish at 2 and the part-timers finish at 1 you will always run into this problem.
Your finishing time needs to move to 2pm which would mean that you would start an hour later giving the full-timers more time to prep your frame....i don't know how popular this would be in your D.O. mind you but it is the only reasonable solution but as has been said already it's not a part-time or a full-time problem....look for the guy in the shirt&tie.

Part bit of bull s**t going on in here.

On one hand yes it's the managers fault for not managing, but on the other it's the i've got to get out as early as poss and f**k everyone else blue shirt attitude.

The job is s**t because of the c***s working in it,on both sides.
Are we at the stage now where we need to be told when to take a piss because we don't know how to and we have to rely on managers telling us how to do it.
Everyone knows how their office works and what they have to do in a day ffs!

What a joke.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Do you cut off? Do you extend? Do you run round to finish on time? Do you use your car? Or do you just accept the situation and do some unpaid o/t?
That is stress the minute you walk in the door, and it is stress a f/t colleague isn't under.
It isn't a fair and achievable workload.
And I can understand the complaints of a p/timer who sees the f/timer skipping out the door having left a load of s**t behind.
Grow a back bone and stand up for yourself ffs. If your stressing about stupid things like cutting off or running round your delivery in order to finish on time then there's something wrong and picking on fulltimers on here isn't the right way to address it. Your allowing yourself to be walked over by management and your afraid to stand up and tell the manager he is asking the impossible of you.

I'm a full time and it's not all wonderful for us skipping out the door at 0930, I hardly get enough time to prep my own delivery now with 5 lots of D2D. Yet I'm expected to sort mail and go prep a completely alien delivery I've never thrown off before as well as get my delivery thrown off and bagged up in time for the driver.

Why should the most vulnerable people in the office be expected to stand up to managers? (Those recently in the door/temporary contracts/dependent on the goodwill of managers for o/t)
Why don't we have a complete change of mindset: the f/t staff prep the p/t walks to the standard required before leaving(fully prepped/bagged up whatever) and if that means they don't have enough time to complete, they stand up to the managers. This should be easy given that they all have grown a backbone.
Why should f/t staff leave early if they haven't completed the prep of the p/t frames?
BTW - I am f/t.

If it is properly resourced and part of their duty then i completely agree with you but let's be honest here it isn't,it's more usually a case of.."go prep a bit of duty x,and a bit of duty y,now a bit of duty z".

But doesn't the rep have a meeting to discuss "resources"?
Or is it just an excuse to drink coffee with the DOM? :left:
