COUNCILLORS have taken up the plight of disgruntled post office customers in Portishead.
Residents have long been complaining about queues in McColls, the shop in which the town's only post office counter is situated.
On busy days the queues spill out onto the street and people living in the town want to see something done about it.
The town council will meet with the Post Office to discuss provision in the town and is calling on members of the public to send in their views ahead of this.
Councillor Ros Cruse said: "Residents raised the issue about the Post Office Counters service in Portishead at the council's annual meeting. It is unacceptable for a town this size to have just one post office and we want to address the matter."
Hopes of a second post office opening within the proposed Sainsbury's supermarket in Serbert Way have been dismissed.
This follows enquiries with the national post office manager for McColl's newsagents who confirmed that the Post Office would not approve a new facility in such close proximity to an existing outlet.
Comments and views from residents about the current service should be made in writing and sent to town clerk Martin Dolton at the Folk Hall in High Street. The council is also keen to discover if people travel out of town to use a post office.

I don't know about Portishead's Post Office but I've had many a pint and a few meals in the Windmill there.
