Portsmouth man's anger over postal deliveries

Every week dozens of letters flood through Ryan Koga's front door - but most of them are not addressed to him.
For three months the 27-year-old electrician has been receiving not just his own mail, but also post for the other eight flats in his building.

One day last week he received 15 letters - some with 'private' and 'confidential' written on them.

Each morning either Ryan or his girlfriend has to visit all their neighbours in Magpie Court, in Fratton Road, Portsmouth to do their postman's job for him.He has called the Royal Mail six times to let them know about the mistake - but still the letters keep coming.

'They keep saying they will fix the problem and nothing gets done,' said Ryan.

'We even showed the postman where to deliver them when we moved in, but no matter what we do they don't stop.

'It's incredibly frustrating because not only do we have to go and hand them out, but our neighbours think something funny is going on because we always have their mail.'

He said so far his complaints to Royal Mail haven't made any difference, though they have given him 12 first class stamps as compensation.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: 'We would apologise to Mr Koga for the inconvenience he has experienced as a result of mis-deliveries to his address.'

Sounds as if there might be more to this story than is printed here.

Might there be some reason why he receives all the mail? Is his letterbox the only accessible delivery point, for example?
Or, heaven forbid, worse still, has he got el_cartero as his postman?

There will always be problems like this when management refuse to get walks covered properly.
Forcing people to take out part of a so-called lapsed walk, is not having that walk covered properly.
But, hey...what do I know, I'm only an experienced postman, and not some middle class plonker in a suit sitting in the RM boardroom for a few hours a day, a few days a week, am I?

Ahh, makes me wonder if it's a new block of flats, with no numbers on any of them. There's one like this in our office. Not on the frame (yet) so have to be sorted numerically. Then when you get to the flats, it's numbered like 1 blah street, flat 1/2. 1 blah street, flat 2/2. Flat 1/2 isn't on the same floor as flat 2/2, and flat 3/2 is on the same floor as flat 1/2 None of the doors are numbered, so it's chance your luck and hope they are numbered like you hope they are, a couple of the flats now have numbers up, but it's not numbered like you think it would be, so I have to admit hitting rather a lot of wrong doors You would think people would have the sense to put a door number on flats, especially new ones, even if it's just chalked onto the door. Or maybe they could number them all uniformly when making up the addresses .....
