Untouchable Clerks

Post by billyhayes »

After reading this thread here;

http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... =1&t=29154" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It got me thinking about the piss-takers in my office..

Taking 20 or 25 min tea breaks, (for anyone outside of POL, it should be 15 mins folks) :d'oh!
When going off for a break, popping out for a 5 min ciggie, THEN coming into the office for a 15 minute break, :arrrghhh
clocking up an extra 10 or so mins on a 30 or 60 min lunch, (1 hour and 15 minutes lunch anyone!?) :cuppa :cuppa

I thought I would see if this goes on in the rest of the World According to POL.

I can assure you that it does in my office.
One of my favourites is when I go into the tearoom and one of the piss-takers are already in there, I stay for 15 mins and when I leave, they are STILL there!!! :crazy:

Although the Q-Buster initiative has started, these wonkers have been doing the same old shite for the last 15 to 25 years, so whats going to stop them now??

I have explained that to my managers and they just say, "Well, they will just HAVE to change."

It's as though this sort of thing has gone on for so long, which all sets of managers have known about in the time I have been in my office, that it has become an almost 'acceptable norm'.

What really winds me up is when I am told "They will be on conduct code if they carry that on because of Q-Buster."

FFS!! What about the last 20 years you mug!?

Always has existed, always will. If I had my way we would be using Horizon data to monitor individual performance.

This happens in our office too. Clerks who are always 5 or 10 mins late in the morning, pop to the loo just as we're opening or pop outside to talk to a family member for 10 mins leaving the rest of us to cover completely drive me mad!!!!

Sometimes Billy 15 mins is not enough time, believe me when I've been out for a Friday night P*ss up followed by a vindaloo the visit to the toilet
alone on the Saturday takes a good half hour.

Trust me , by dumping last nights pleasures in "work time" is a lot better for my fellow clerks than letting out rancid farts while serving.

So to you I may be taking the p*ss but infact i'm taking a dump !

All very true. As a point in fact, after evacuating my bowels, I have recently taken to having a quick peep into the pan to see who my prize-winner most looks like.

I have decided it is our CAM. :funneh :nana :left:

There are lots of bone idle sods who think that sitting around on Workshops, meetings, conference calls, ‘one to ones’ etc talking about Sales is work.

I agree with the BFO 100 per cent!
(Except she missed out the shuffling around of papers and updating whiteboards with meaningless referral numbers, quotes, etc.).
The sooner we cut out all this rubbish the better.

Please tell me where these branches are so that I can apply for a job, lol:) We don't have set tea breaks, and sometimes the cup of coffee we put up on the shelf before we opened at 9am goes down the sink when we finally get to lunch! And as for the whiteboards, I'd like to see some of these smart folks who come up with all these targets come and do a stint behind our counter and try to cope with the footfall and sell, sell, sell at the same time - without putting a 42 second delay for the next customer. Maybe we should all be puffed up with helium before we open up so that we can whizz through the nominated sales discussions at double quick time??

Hello Debra,

Do you work in a Crown Office? If so, your entitlement to a 15 minute tea break is enshrined in the Crown Office Staffing Agreement.

And be sure to let the customers know that you will be back in 15 mins :whistle

Christ sounds just like our office - but only for certain staff members. There are about 2/3 staff members who can do no wrong, they take extra long tea breaks making everyone else late, they decide to wait to go to tea break if they don't like the time it is scheduled for, they will go into the back office and stand and chat for 10/15 minutes and worse than that they will cross talk on the counter to one another for 10 minutes or more about totally unrelated subjects to work while customers are stood in the cue waiting. One member of staff in particular will come into work stinking of drink from the night before, they will be late arriving and then they will take 10/20 minutes to set up their till before actually serving a customer. When they have a customer in their grip they will do whatever they can to keep them at the counter for as long as possible talking a load of crap about what postage they have put on their parcel through paypal. The ironic thing is that this person only works part time on 21 hours a week. :cuppa

Do managers do any thing? No. Unless of course you are not one of the chosen few, then they are on your back every five minutes. I agree that staff should be monitored through horizon on the amount of customers they serve and how often their systems lock out through none use.

This job is suffocating enough without those of use that do work having to carry the lazy bastards. :evil/mad
