London federation of Green parties: Motion on RM

The following motion was passed at last night's meeting of London federation of Green parties:

"Royal Mail provides a vital public service to our communities, rural and urban alike. The Government intends to bring forward legislation to privatise and break up Royal Mail. We are convinced that this will lead to widespread closure of Post Offices, jeopardise the uniform tarriff and universal service for letters, and lead to a deterioration of services provided - particularly for small businesses, domestic customers, vulnerable groups and communities. We therefore commit the London Federation of Green Parties to supporting the Keep the Post Public Coalition."

>>We are convinced that this will lead to widespread closure of Post Offices<<.

No it will not, POL have other ways to achieve such closures, you cannot blame Privatisation for that

This is not the first time I have heard this excuse by the anti privatisation lobby, could someone please explain just how Privatising Royal Mail would close down widespread parts of the Sub Office Network??

What overheads do Royal Mail pay for PO's Belial?

Answer = none.

They simply pay for any products that PO's sell on their behalf, presumably a privatised Royal Mail will still want to sell their products?
If so, what better place than in a building called a Post Office. :roll:

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The've been using bullshit excuses to sell us off for years.

Falling mail volumes,burden on the tax payer,out of date working practices,pension deficit,dinosaur union..more falling mail volumes,the need to modernise....blah,blah,blah.
it's maybe time to fight fire with fire and make up some lies of our own.

If you privatise Royal Mail the CWU will....will....do something bad......maybe. :roll:
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

But the leadership will talk about it in secret for as long as it takes for the membership to forget what the issue was in the first place ,whilst issuing lots of chaff to confuse the argument . I guess
