Over half of carbon emissions are work related and british comapnies waste 1 billion pounds of energy every year.Id much rather that money was in the wages and pensions of hard working trade union members wouldnt you?

Workplaces burn energy, consume resouces and generate waste and travel so they are a obvious place to tackle climate change.
.....but they also make profits for big fat capitalist porkers Daz.....if you can cut their carbon footprint AND save them money then they will love you but come between them and the bottom line and you will see how valued an "Environmental Champion" really is.

You sound like the little boy with his finger in the dyke, have you heard yourself - battle the beast, battle it from within - well the next time a factories on fire why don't I take out my thingy and squirt water on it.

As for putting the money into working trade union members - you'll do well in the CWU ranks right enough - the bulls on the loose again.

 So, if RM on it's own saved £20.000 quid a year on elecricity bills, they would give us what they saved! There is of course nothing wrong in trying to change things for the better, but this is a lost cause! Mind you, the rate unemployment is rising there will be no workplaces soon anyway!

One could say trade unionism is a lost cause weve been trying to improve a workers lot for over 200 years and there are still many problems. But that dosent stop rank and file workers volunteering to become reps and try and make a difference.

Be very wary of cutting waste in the workplace Daz.....most of the "wasted £1 billion" is produced by or for employees as it directly relates to workplace productivity and BSI so unless you have plans for a financially stable 3 day week then i would step away from that one.

:Very Happy Again, nobody is suggesting you are not one of the good guys--but when will you take on board, this Union, under the present leadership, is doing more harm to the cause than anything else! Having them tell us we've got to insulate our homes and spouting forth about global warming is not what it's about. Now, if they were to spend the money say on a staff protection officer, fair enough!

I wouldnt want the CWU to tell you what to do in your own home, they are there to deal with the world of work.

Does that mean I and the mbrs at my D.O have to make do with heating thats on too high?

Does that mean I should turn a blind eye to light being on that dont need to be on?

Should I just accept that theTV is on and nobodty is watching bit?

Thats three examples of wasted energy in my D.O

It pisses me off to see RML wasting money whilst at the same time asking the mbrs to absorb!!!

Does anyone know how RM pays the electricity, phone bills etc?

Is it by one big cheque (BACS) for the whole or is it per DO/Mail Centre etc

If we did a deal with one of the energy/phone companies I'm sure we'd get a better result and lower costs!

Better still why haven't we done a contra deal, and delivered the bills for said energy/phone company (at a reduced cost!) and get a reduced bill for the energy/phone etc Plus cutout the likes of UKMail!!!!!

Hey, I should be a politician! :Very Happy

Plus I can bring in a bucket of bath water to throw down the loo

No Daz but with all due respect you don't need to be an Environment Champion to switch off a light do you? Anyway I'm afraid this is chicken feed compared to what is really considered to be "waste in the workplace"...us or more importantly our productivity.
on average, only 4.4 hours of a typical employee's work day are used productively. About 1.2 hours are lost because of personal and other unavoidable delays, while 2.4 hours are just "wasted." Nearly 35 percent of the wasted time is due to poor scheduling of workers; 25 percent is due to unclear communications of assignments; and 15 percent is due to improper staffing. The remaining "waste" is due to uncoordinated materials handling, absenteeism, and tardiness
It is said by these "people" that if we can raise our productivity up to 100% then we can achieve the same output with a 3 day week.....think of the energy savings :Applause ....,now obviously that won't work in our job so you would need something like say the IWT :whistle ...and DPT :whistle ....and pegasus :whistle ....and 24,000 fewer jobs.

So switch em off - then you won't have to absorb :left: in your dreams - you're like one or two others of the CWU ilk trying to justify nothing, I mean how on earth have we managed up to now without an environmental officer ffs.

My DOM mentioned it last week.

So returning to my original question, has your workplace been made aware of the role of environment champion?

Anyone heard if there's a vacancy for a gay liberation officer? I'm sure if there is free time involved somebody will want to champion their cause.
