1/2 Day sick??

Post by POSTMAN »

What's the deal,i stopped work today around 5hrs into my shift (sick)
I phoned in about 10-45/11-ish
TOA 5-45 till 13-45 8hrs.
Am i right in saying that.........
After 4hrs+ it's not classed as sick,ie i'm entitled to a full days pay or is it 1/2 day sick?
I know there's a cut off time limit,or at least i think there is.
Any ideas?

once again the good old days are gone, sick is sick, although only a complete tw?t of a boss would book you sick for it,any questions say it took you till the end of your duty time minus m/r of course to get home because you were so ill

Don't know if it's the same in all areas but in ours providing you return to work the following day and have done more than approx 2hrs on your duty then the part day should be discounted on your sick record(if a stage is triggered) and you should be paid for a full day providing that you have not had a warning for abusing the part day system.
hope this helps!

seems to depend on what your boss is like we were never told the old rules were gone until i had a argument with boss about it and no one seems sure what the new ones are
seems to me if you work 4 hrs and then go sick and they put you down for a days sick then you are owed 4 hrs

Slightly off the topic, but ...

We have been told in our office that we cannot take a half-day's leave, because "the computer system can't cope with half-days" :mad

I said "so change the computer, then" :dance

Anyone know what Royal Mail's national policy is on taking a half-day ? People regularly used to take the occasional half-day before, now suddenly local managers seem to have a problem with doing it. You can bet, though, that if someone has an urgent doctor's appointment, and needs to finish early, the manager will say NO but then tell him 'you'll have to take it as a half-day's leave' :mad

I'll go in all sweet and innocent :cool
As for the half days leave thing,we were always told you come in and work 4hrs,and i'm sure it was 3 and 3/4 hrs when we were on the 6 day week.
Goal posts on f***ing wheels come to mind.

In the Southwest it is for example:

Duty start time: 0600am

Duty finish time: 1400pm

If you sign off or report sick for any amount of time (be it 1,2,3,6, or 7hrs 59 minutes) you must contact your office to tell them that you will return to work the following day. All is part sick.

As for the 7hrs 59 minutes (ie: you sign on for duty and you almost immediatly sign off due to ill health) this is still part sick as you have attended for duty, ill health is unexpected and should be treated as such. The way Forwad done away with working half a shift/duty.

No part sickness can be used against you in a stage warning unless......... you take one a week constantly for say six weeks or so. Then it can be used against you, or in a conduct stage. So if you are going to abuse it, they will add all dates together and count them as days absent.

Cheers woemc,some good info there.

Weasel my lino wernt in today so i saw my DOM 'Happy'
I filled out a sick form as the norm but he had highlighted 'Part sick day' so it will only go down as that, which i was pleased with of course and suprised.
I'm 5-45 start and he had me down for 10-00 o'clock stop, even though it was 10-45-ish i didn't want to argue,or feel the need to as i had it as half/part day sick.
So it came good in the end.
