HUNDREDS of mourners turned out for the funeral on Friday of Motherwell postman Davie Mathie who collapsed and died while on his rounds.
The 58-year-old was a marshall in the Orange Lodge and a flute band led a procession after the funeral service at North Motherwell Parish Church to the Orange Hall in Milton Street.
The hall is next door to the War Office pub where Davie, affectionately known as Basher, was a popular figure.
For many years he organised the Rangers' supporters bus from there and was involved with the pub's own football team and charity fundraising events.
Davie's wife, Liz, thanked everyone for their support and messages of comfort. She said a collection at Holytown Crematorium raised £800 and this will be presented to the Ravenscraig Suite at Wishaw General Hospital.
A post-mortem showed that her husband died of a massive heart attack. He collapsed while delivering mail in Antonine Avenue, close to his North Motherwell home.
