Pay cut??? 5000 a year???? Say who?????
OK this is how it is. All I have heard is a stream of rumours about counter staff having to carry a pay cut of £5000 a year. How does that work and where did the rumours start? Do they seriously expect us to take a physical cut in our pay? Some of us struggle to pay our mortgages and bills as it is with the cost of living rising as fast as it is. What the hell is going on? Does anyone know?

Well Subbies had a pay cut forced upon them this year, so I would not be surprised if the Crown Office employees did not have one forced upon them as well, although if the story was true surely the employer or your Union would have written to you outlining what was going on?

This would equate to an hourly payrate of approx. £7.77. If it was still 35 hours.

Sent around in a printed message at the office, from CWU, apparently we are over paid by £5000 per year compared to W H Smith. Maybe you should ask you union rep about it. We have already been told there is no pay offer on the table. Our office is being run by the bloody gestapo anyway. More work out of us but no extra pay and maybe even less pay. So what is going on? Nobody tells you anything.

Don't panic! This was not an official LTB from CWU HQ. It was a newsletter produced to get a reaction from your area rep.
They are basically telling you what POL have said to the union, that we are overpayed. Period.
There will be no 5K paycut.
Something similar was sent out by the other 19 area reps, each with their own take on the situation.
It was your area rep putting fire in your belly for the inevitable industrial action on the horizon.
So.. are you fired up?

Your damn right I am, we all work so hard behind the counters to get the sales they want and they keep moving the goal posts for the bonus payment products then ask us why aren't we hitting targets. Christ, just let me cut my wrist and bleed for you!!!!!!!!
I used to love my job, but not anymore. I feel demoralized, unworthy and unappreciated.
But hey, good to know that the letter was untrue, that would have been the final straw. Thanks for that. Solidarity guys, we are worth every penny we get paid

I wouldn't say the letter was untrue. Just flexible with the facts.
Do you have a scanner?
I would love to see it.
Seems you have a maverick area rep. My favorite kind!
DON'T FORGET PEOPLE.... AREA MANAGERS AND CAM'S ARE ON FOR A JUICY BONUS IF THEY CUT FRONTLINE STAFF COSTS BY 4.5% THIS YEAR!!!
DON'T GIVE IN AND JACK THE JOB!

Ahhh the old overpaid and under worked in relation to our competitors bollox!
We've been there done it and............................................got the pay cut.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Just thought I'd try to resurrect this thread.
Has anybody out there got any more news on pay talks, strike ballots or anything else connected with our pay?
I'm presuming, on account that this thread has been so quiet, that we've all accepted that there will be no pay rise and there's no point fussing over it; somebody please tell me I'm wrong!

Strike ballot papers will be sent out to everyone's home address soon, so make sure that you have your correct address registered with the CWU.
It's time to stand up, be counted and give a clear message to Richard and Paula about how fed up we all are.
It may be too little too late, but I ain't going down without a fight not when every man and his dog in Royal Mail Group have had a wage rise and a payment for the share issue we should have got in 2009 as well as a promise of more next year. For Christ's sake even our managers got one!
All nicely timed for a Brucie bonus in time Christmas in some cases.
I've NEVER been so angry about the way we're treated and I for one can't wait to act. Remember united you stand, divided you fall....

Re: Pay cut??? 5000 a year???? Say who?????
In relation to the above, is there some irony in the memoview received recently saying how great we all are for working through the bad weather? (Unfortunately I was actually off sick, but would of course have made every effort to dig through the snow at 3mph - I believe that's what the guidlines say).
Going back to the comparisons with WH Smith pay scales; surely we do a very different job to a shop assistant in Smiths. No disrespect to shop assistants at all, indeed my wife used to work as one. However she would be the first to admit that my job was more demanding and responsible and would naturally attract more pay.
We were getting the old "lucky to have a job" routine off our manager during WTL, when somebody countered, "No, the PO are lucky to have staff as good as we are!".
Personally I love the job so much that I'm not worried about a pay rise

Re: Pay cut??? 5000 a year???? Say who?????
Further to the post above, over the next few weeks, POL will start to send out 'strikebreakers' ie BMS, CAMS and the chocolate teapots from Old Street to make any 'wobblers' vote against a strike and indeed not go out if strikes are called. Expect the visits to start as soon as the CWU announce that the ballot papers are in the post.
Be sure to remind every one of them that they get paid double what a Smiffs manager gets.
And that for all their deceitful bile of "We all get paid too much" Someone at the top didn't seem to think that managerial grades were... so they gave them another 2.25% for good measure!
Never before has the CWU had to do any LESS work. All we need are the ballot papers. I don't need countless reminders from Furey and the Territorials WHY we should go out... chop chop with it!
Non union members have been sent CWU membership forms to their work address to enable them to have a voice. This started last week.
Oh and while I remember, a few of you will know that there should also have been a share in success payment in 2010.
This will undoubtedly be dressed up in the emperors new clothes.
I envisage that this has been purposefully held back so that when POL finally ante up after a few strikes, it will be dangled in front of a shitty pay deal with loads of strings attached and the masses will only see £400 odd waved at them that they will accept what is bound to be a bad offer.
The posties accepted it
and so will counter staff
. It's your money already! Don't be fooled. This should be paid completely separate to any paydeal.
You will also see a change in overtime availability too. If you are in an office with an overtime budget you will see that dry up quicker than a nuns nasty.
This is to further bait people who may work their rest day/s etc into not striking... as "I'll work my day off on Saturday to pay for my strike on Monday" for example, will not be an option.
BE SMART PEOPLE! THIS IS WHERE POL AND THEIR MANY CRONIES WILL PLAY EVERY TRICK IN THEIR BOOK.
