What is wrong with you people, how is doing o/t helping in any way, shape or form to highlight that either the jobs are too big or the delivery offices are under staffed?

I used to do o/t every day but not any more, 2 managers had to go out this week with full, yes full walks.....I can assure they'll soon get pissed off with that, and surprise surprise it took the fat unfit twats nearly 3 1/2 hours to do the walks, cumuppence springs to mind.......we all had great pleasure in reminding them it's our light period and how long would it have taken them with 8 registered, twice the packets etc etc

Needless to say they have a different outlook of things now, but as far as o/t goes, don't do any, you'll soon get in a position where they'll be begging you to do it for 3, 4 or even 5 hours for half a round.

VICTORY WILL SOON BE OURS :nana
Nail on the head :dance

seen this over and over again, DSMs pass down reductions in overtime, group together and refuse as its not worth it and they back down, do it and they win at your loss :no no

Sorry your logic is at fault.

They are willing to do EXTRA work, but the remuneration is not enough so they don't do it.

I believe this is the same ethic that Market Forces promote. Unless of course you believe that only those of a certain grade are allowed to sell their skills and commitment at more than the market rate.

I'd expect to be paid for however long it took. If it took 2hrs, I'd claim 2 hrs, although that's unlikely, unless it's a 6 hr walk.

It's strange how so many people expect to be paid for more hours than they actually work (doing this third of a walk), yet nobody agrees with me that all overtime should be time and a half (or time and a third or whatever). That's time over your contracted hrs. I think it's scandalous how a 25 hr contract get no extra per hour for working 26 to 40 hrs.

It's overtime rate NewPostie that's all.
Being paid 3hrs for 2hrs work is just time and a half that's all....not being paid more than you actually work.
I do agree with you that a simpler system would be better for us but RM do not want to pay time and a half every time you go over on your delivery because that would cost them a fortune.

So you think it is perfectly reasonable for someone on a 25 hour contract to work 40 hours and be paid more than someone on a 40 hour contract
I've got a good idea let's all have 1 hour contracts and get paid overtime rate of time & half for every hour worked more, about £530 per week for 40 hours, sure beats a FT 40 hour contract

As others have said don't do overtime for a few days and they will up it again and you will all benefit a hell of a lot more from that than if you carry on doing it now

Many thanks, fellow posties for the number and variety of replies :Very Happy - and for some thought provoking comments on the entire concept of working o/t for an organisation that perpetuates 'divide and rule' through the implementation of highly dubious and arbitrary 'local agreements' (maybe 'local disagreements' would be more appropriate).

Interestingly, no one seems to have addressed the issue that's directly pertinent to the '2010 and Beyond' agreement. That is:

D2D is now part of workload. We should ('should' being the operative word in our office), have time factored in for both the extra prep and the extra delivery time associated with the new D2D spec. (see docs available on this site). Has ANYONE been offered an increase in the amount of time allowed when delivering on o/t?

I would have thought that, at the very least, each agreed hour of o/t should attract 1/40 of the delivery supplement, in addition to the above mentioned extra time! (After all, RM & CWU are so slavishly devoted to the 'pro rata' concept!)

Nobody expects to be paid for hours of work they haven't done. The problem with RM delivery (and I speak not just from my own experience and that of my office, but also for colleagues from a number of different DO's) is that a '3 hr walk' or a '3.5 hr walk' is very seldom that. In fact, the lower down the office pecking order you are, the more likely you are to be on a de facto 4hr+ walk. Overtime, for many on 30, or fewer, hour contracts is the only way that they can provide for their families. I suggest that this should be assessed and applied at a rate appropriate for the job undertaken.

Oh, and by the way, YES I think it's PERFECTLY REASONABLE for someone on a 25hr contract who occasionally is lucky enough to work 40hrs to be paid more than someone on a 40hr contract. If you have the security of a full time contract (as I do), you should understand the benefits of: greater job security, holiday pay, sickness and other 'pro-rata' benefits. If it's more than 'occasionally', they are surely entitled to more contracted hours, and the security that goes goes with those hours.

In my opinion last post utter nonsense.
People who take jobs on PT basis know score before they start if 20 hours doesn't support their families and that's the contract offered DONT take the job. It's no good taking the contract offered then starting bleating how they cannot support their families so feel entitled to overtime at a higher rate of pay than a full time colleague.
Their is family credit for those with families to do that.
Point about if overtime is regular I can accept that their contracted hours should be increased to reflect this but for this to happen you would need a united worforce and strong union leadership anyone think we have either.

Do you seriously think that most employees on p/t contracts are on them by choice? They are p/t because that's the only type of job they were able to get!
