Staff hit by bar in Redditch post office and store raid

Robbers armed with a crow bar-like instrument and batons have injured an employee while raiding a post office and store in Worcestershire.

Four masked men entered Costcutters in Redditch, off Matchborough Way, at about 0942 BST.

A male worker was hit on the arm by a bar. The men left shortly afterwards with a trolley filled with cigarettes.

A police officer pulled up as they were loading the goods into a black car and they drove off towards Hatfield Close.

Personalised plates
The worker was taken to hospital and treated for a minor injury to his arm.

Det Insp Brian Russell, of West Mercia Police, said: "We want to hear from anyone who may have seen the black car used by the robbers, which has a distinctive plate at the back with lettering spelling out the name 'MOONEY'.

"We believe this was near Hatfield Close prior to it arriving at the Matchborough Centre and we'd urge anyone who noticed such a car in the area to get in touch."

The getaway car had an 03 plate at the front and was parked at the rear of the Costcutter's store near the Old Sticky Wicket pub.
