Re: Longer Saturdays with New Agreement!
Drb yes there are reps who do any thing for an easy life. But I think they are on the margins , most reps do a good job under differcult circumstances. Remember if a unit has always been weak because they have never stood up for themselves against management then it is not an easy job to turn that around. However I know of offices which have been weak become strong under a good rep providing he has the trust of the workforce.
I go into loads of different offices and I can instantly tell how strong an office is by how the rep is treated by his or her members. The sad thing is their are loads of local reps doing a thankless task only becuase no one else will do it. They should be appluded for that but should also have the support of their Branch`s.
Now we all know their are some good branch`s and there are some not so good branch`s and in my opinion those branch`s should either be complusory merged with a branch who is a good branch or equally when the branch and their are few have become too big to represent all the areas they cover they should be broken up into more manageable numbers.
I do also share big daz view local committees are still evident in a lot of London offices but I also believe that in some places its not even possible to get a local rep let alone a group of people who want to get involved.
My own personal view is that every Branch should have an audit to understand what is happening and how they reprsent the offices within their catchment area and any failings should be sorted and any best pratice should be introdcued.
Now in terms of this agreement their is a ticklist for offices which will be shared today at the Divisional reps meeting which will mean every office is reviwed at bot regional and divisonal level and at DSM and Area reps level. So if an office is not in agreement for any reason the issues need to be raised up and for gods sake the 6 step process needs two sign offs dont just accept what your delivery office manager says. If workload is in the office earlier on a satuday then demand an earlier start or dont agree the revison. Its called negotitation after all. Remember its easy to blame others but its your offices that either vote for your local agreement or rejct it. So make sure its right for your office.
No where in the national agreement does it state that you have to start later, only that the hours need to aliegn to where the work is and most offices even with walk sequencing will have work from 0500.

Dingo and Fishtank singing from the same hymn sheet. I never thought I would live long enough to see that.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Can't wait to read how wonderful things are down the yellow brick road in lala land after the Div Reps meeting today.
Still here we are in August, has anyone actually applied these new guidelines and had a revision yet or are they like us and still waiting for some meaningful discussion that actually makes some sense?
I'll bet that wasn't mentioned at the Div Reps meeting today.

The non binding preference exercise has started in my D.O
Given the troops untill Friday 27th August to think, complete and hand in. No point in a shorter timscale to due to my annual leave next week and then the DOM is on leave. After that we sit down and look at what type of mix of duties we can create in the D.O
