Motherwell postman dies on round

A POPULAR postman collapsed and died while on his rounds in Motherwell.
Shocked colleagues rushed to help 58-year-old Davie Mathie and paramedics were soon on the scene, but he couldn't be saved.

Davie, of Chesters Crescent, was only a short distance from his North Motherwell home when he collapsed in Antonine Avenue on Wednesday morning last week.

A spokeswoman for Royal Mail said: "Davie worked with us for 12 years and our deepest sympathy is with his family and friends at this very sad time."

Davie, who is survived by his wife, Liz, was secretary of White Gates Loyal Supporters' Club, based at the pub, and had organised the fans' bus to home and away games for at least 15 years.

Vice-president Colin Crawford said: "Liz and Rangers were the loves of his life. He followed Rangers all over Europe.

"Davie and Liz didn't have children but he used to say that he had 50 kids to look after when he took us to the game every Saturday!

Everyone's devastated at the news. He will be sadly missed."

Er i would say that the later starts & longer walks in summertime will always be more difficult & there is no thought regarding this by management but even so it would still be natural causes. A very sad story whatever
