Even if we lost all the DSA our workload would only drop by a small amount so it would only balance out with our current staffing levels. Anyway, it's not joe public who matter (our senior managements view, not mine) it's the big posters and they are the ones who would be complaining if their mail was being delivered late (or not at all). Fight them on quality not on how cheaply they can do it.....................we have a board of directors and senior management who can't seem to do anything but cut cut cut cut.Caniel wrote:I'm all for taking the bull by the horns and fighting competition but the problem is old joe public doesn't really give a shite when they get their mail or what time and that's the reality of it. Sure they will complain a little but nothing will happen they will just learn to put up with it because the cronies in Westminster say its for the best like they have with everything else in this country that's shite from trains to planes and other utilities.DGP1 wrote:Surely that is competition and that we could effectively fight against it, let them deliver their own mail and we'll deliver our own because it wouldn't be long before we get to hear all the stories of mail being thrown over hedges/into rivers/into bins etc. that would all be their doing. On the plus side it would make my work easier (I'm already doing 6 hour deliveries most days) but I think those posties in large urban centres are going to suffer either way.Big Daz wrote:Only operational option to RML is reduce costs in order to make a profit on DSA, RML would like the access price made more realistic.
dingo mentioned by bypass a few days ago and whilst a full scale national network might not be replicated, TNT want to do domestic deliveries and if DSA ceases to be a cheaper option to them, then delivering buissnes items such as utilty bills/ bank letters in large urban areas on a minium wage workforce could well become a reality. TNT allready have the big sorting centres so it really wouldnt take much for them to seqeunce that mail and deliver it themselves.
Without DSA we will have rival posties out delivering stuff for less than what we are on and delivering twice as much as what we deliver. They will be cheapo migrant workers from Poland or some other poor foreign country who will be keen as mustard to do the job, then my friend we will be out of a job and on the dole.

Forgive me for being blunt Big Daz but that statement is utter bollocks. I do understand that that is the line promoted by fans of privatisation ,Hooper included(but he was paid to do a jobBig Daz wrote:Only operational option to RML is reduce costs in order to make a profit on DSA, RML would like the access price made more realistic.

But, and it's a whopper. The one thing that all these free marketeers conveniently forget to mention is price. Don't take my word for it ,check out' case not proven' .
Now if TNT with all their super modern stuff and massive job cuts and whopping casual workforce and super dense urban area in Holland where they charge way over RM prices for delivery are in deep financial doodoo's, how the f**k are they going to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the uk and make a profit at half revenue per letter and with a fraction of the available volume
Bye

There is obviously something afoot because they are bringing out the bogeyman again, there is always something in the offing, like the pension fund - they were going to stop it if we didn't agree, the Government wouldn't foot the bill - well they haven't and the government have done FA and so have the union. RM are in the throes of making redundancies and shorter hours and does anyone think TNT are going to employ a delivery workforce.................cuckoo

Any news on the leeches trials in Liverpool?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

The problem with that, is that it'd be REAL competition. And no-one is capable of doing that.DGP1 wrote:Surely that is competition and that we could effectively fight against it, let them deliver their own mail and we'll deliver our own because it wouldn't be long before we get to hear all the stories of mail being thrown over hedges/into rivers/into bins etc. that would all be their doing. What I believe we should do, is increase the cost of DSA to the laughably called, competition. So that they'll either have to set up their own end to end service, or no-longer be able to compete with us. Anything else, is just a pathetic joke at our expense!!!!!!

Have you looked at the mail lately? Most of it is DSA... I think in RMs eyes and approach there are no customers only resources. The sender and the receiver are just providers and users thats it end off.......
