here we go again attack the reps the union etc. we all know the agreement has big holes in it,but as a small office rep who works Saturdays and on a normal round i get stick from the floor and the manager but as along as i have got members finishing at 12.30 when their paid to 14.15 less their 40 minute break and moan about how their can do no more in the time given to them and how hard done by their are what can you do!! ive spent the last 4 hours of my time checking the tray counts from our mail centre and now will have a great resource meeting this week when i will fight the doms cut of indoor hours using these figures in the iwt.and as i fight these cuts i will have members coming back early because their have RAN round their round because their want to get to their other jop or go home to have a sleep and when i say some thing to them iam told every man for him self

Depends on my times at 2010.
Seriously - nearly 50, asthmatic, probably diabetic, surgery on both knees. If 4mph doesn't worry me it shouldn't really worry anyone else.

Mean comfortable gait speed for subjects under 60 years old ranged from 137.9cm/s 3.08mph to 144.8 cm/sec 3.24mph for men and 132.7 cm/s 2.97mph to 139.5 cm/sec 3.12mph for women.

I wonder if there is a potential sex discrimination case in this since the mean comfortable gait speed differs from men to women.
Does pegasus have separate values for the sexes?....i don't think so. :whistle

In the report I saw the mean comfortable gait for a woman in her 20's was faster than an equivalent male.
So maybe 20 year old females is the way to go.
Oh no! What have I said.

Maybe a 20 year old female nurse would be a better idea. :chuckle

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

clashcityrocker wrote:If you were doing a 4hr delivery @ 4mph your walk would be 16 miles. Nobody walks 16 miles/day on their delivery because the 4mph only relates to the walking between delivery points. It doesn't include your dead walking, interaction with customers, drop boxes etc. I would be surprised if anyone walks above 10 miles which equates to an average speed of 2.5mph.
4 mph isn't very fast. I use it as a warm down speed on the treadmill. I know exactly how fast it is and I doubt if many people actually walk that slowly out on delivery.
i sort of agree with your maths clash!
your right nobody sustains a 4mile per hour rate as you would do 12 miles in 3 hours (why 3 hours)?
I think 10 miles per delivery is typical when you take in garden paths etc.
but the fact that you did 10 miles in 4 hours only means you averaged 2.5 miles per hour.
you could pause 1500 times! open gate, doorstep, close gate, times 500, bag drop, apply trolley brake ,lock trolley, busy traffic wait to cross road etc.
ignore the time your not moving!
more like 10 miles in 3 hours= 3.333 miles per hour averaged over the time your moving.
pretty fast for an hct.

I think 10 miles would be excessive. This is from earlier in the thread. (Rennie)

This is important because I have tested my delivery using a more reliable GPS method. My walking speed was variable depending on terrain and slowing down and speeding up but max about 3.5 MPH (brisk) My staiontionary time was about nearly an hour and my average walking speed over the entire delivery was 2.1 MPH over 3.5 hours giving an overall distance of about 7.3 miles.

Perhaps every unit should but a Garmin Forerunner to test the walks accurately.

And when they get shafted with extra workload suddenly ,it's all the unions fault ,for not protecting the poor little innocent souls . Its a bit like watching a room full of 5yr old spoilt brats , not a clue about personal responsibility and always expecting someone else to clear up their mess. At least some of the 5yr olds grow out of it though :no no

Tough talking is fine but then what?
There's too much time and effort goes into worrying about what the minority are doing and it provides a handy smokescreen for the deficiencies of those paid to protect the rest.
How do you protect the majority of decent hard working staff after we've done the easy part and thrown abuse at the a**eholes?
Or are we saying that the majority of staff are a**eholes in which case the union really is pointless. :hmmmm
