Royal Mail redirection and a customer services classic

I must share this Fawlty Towers-esque response from the Royal Mail.
It came after their redirection service, which ain't cheap, failed to redirect for the final month and missed some important post.
Basically, once the service ends, they can't investigate any complaints or retrieve any post - which is handy.
I was very sorry to hear of the problem you've experienced with your recent mail Redirection service. Within the huge volumes of mail we redirect for customers, few problems arise - but we take every single failure seriously, so I'm really sorry that we've let you down.
I am sorry to say that, due to the fact your redirection has now expired, there are no further investigations I can make. This is because the redirection instructions and labels that were integral to the process of forwarding your mail are no longer at the relevant Delivery Office, due to the service no longer being required. Please be assured however that we take letting our customers down seriously and we will use this information to make further improvements.
As there is no further action I can take on your behalf, I hope that the explanation above resolves your complaint and concludes this matter. If you require any further help or information about Royal Mails Redirection service, please visit our website at http://www.royalmail.com/redirections" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

That's right, £7.64 hardly lasts a couple of hour down the pub these days.Straight4ward wrote:£7.64 for one month. Not exactly a king's ransom, is it?their redirection service, which ain't cheap,

Well don't go down to the pub then, spend it on a bunch of flowers for the good lady wife, she will be so very grateful - and buy your wife some as wellLounge Lizard wrote:That's right, £7.64 hardly lasts a couple of hour down the pub these days.Straight4ward wrote:£7.64 for one month. Three pints down the pub is cheaper than a good bunch of flowers so unless it's her birthday the landlord will see more of me than the florist.dvbuk55 wrote:Well don't go down to the pub then, spend it on a bunch of flowers for the good lady wife, she will be so very grateful - and buy your wife some as wellLounge Lizard wrote:That's right, £7.64 hardly lasts a couple of hour down the pub these days.Straight4ward wrote:£7.64 for one month. You should only buy flowers if you are 100% certain she will put out.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

True enough what they spent isn't the issue it was the lack of service.Straight4ward wrote:£7.64 for one month. Not exactly a king's ransom, is it?their redirection service, which ain't cheap,
would it be alright if he lost his mail if the redirection service only cost a pound?
course not a stamp costs next to nothing but that doesnt diminish the importance of a letter.
I'm a postman-and i know where you live.....

Re: Royal Mail redirection and a customer services classic
Chunk and Andy2007, sorry I’ve set you chasing the wrong hare.
I wasn’t commenting on our failure to redirect, which I agree is totally unacceptable. I was merely picking up on a comment that he had made which set the general tone of the piece.
The writer is a Mail journalist and, I suspect, quite happy to portray us in a bad light. Note his closing comment about privatisation. Furthermore, this appears on the pages of a blog and is probably not subject to the same scrutiny as an article appearing in a national newspaper.
There is usually a little more to the story than gets printed and it would be interesting to know how we managed to get it so badly wrong.
Pax vobiscum.
