Maybe Royal Mail should run a creche!

There are many large companies/organisations that do provide such facilities

But they probably CARE about their staff! :arrrghhh
There is a Workplace Creche at Mount Pleasant MC (the only one in RM though).

Then why on earth are they still telling part timers at the interviews that the working times are 9-2(or very similar). They are still doing this all over. These were the hours I got told at my interview. First day on the job, manager tried to change them, Impossible for me! Told him this too. He was fine with me starting at 9. Then I started at 6.30 for a while, on the understanding, I could use 20 minutes to take my son to school and make it back at the end of the shift, little did I know that I was allowed a 20 minute break anyway, good at doing that aren't they? Anyway, as punishment for annoying a certain person, they have changed my hours back to 9-1:48. It's heavenly.

IMHO they should stop telling people at interviews the hours are so when clearly they want to move the goal posts. They change them outwith my hours that I'm available for work, then they'll just need to lay me off. Will give me the kick in the 4rse that I need to find another job.

I think you will find that many started with RM because the hours suited around their children's school times. Don't move the goal posts after you have got people started in the job.

When I started our start time was 0500 without exception, six days a week, and I think it was 42 hours a week - now.....................well we'd all be looking for another job wouldn't we if we couldn't adapt to the changing times, 0500, 0530, 0600, 0700, 0730, 0800, 0900 0ver 5 days means a longer day and later finish, that's life.

Example: You have just been told that due to operational needs your job has now turned into a night shift!

Would you be happy with that and just "get on with it" :whistle

The light at the end of the tunnel is Royal Mail's Freight Train coming right at you!

for those of u who keep telling me to get another job. I am bloody trying. Unfortunately they are still telling part timers they have to start at 9. Fine, great, brilliant! Then they change it as soon as they start, I'm not talking years down the line here, I'm talking upon starting!

People like you have been and still are the ruination of this job....... How do you just get on with it, if you are supposed to pick your children up at 3.00 and are still at work how do you get on with that????..... People joined this industry because of the times for one thing, we can expect to be flexible to a degree but finish times have been pushed back 3 hours...... Part time colleagues can't get a second job (because of brown nosers agreeing with everything managers say) due to working times like 10 am to 3pm how do you get on with that?????..... You trot off and go in early to prep your D2D's,deliver your round in your car, running round making mistakes with customers mail, one day it will catch up with your sort sadly it will be too late..... Have a little self pride stand up for yourself and your colleagues you don't have to agree with everything the management put forward....

Yeah, just get on with whatever s**t they throw at you. No wonder the jobs turned to crap with people taking it all and just getting on with it. Probably why they got a YES vote in the latest raping, fools just getting on with Royal Mails ridiculous visions.

Some of us still have a little fight in us though.

The thing that gets me though is the same people chastising us for having children are probably the same people crying like kids that they'll miss footy on a Saturday.

And my times ARE in my contract. Changing them and making it impossible to look after, for example a disabled son would be deemed as constructive dismissal.
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

RM won't be looking after anyone. Employees with or without children. It's just the way it's going to be. I see everyone on here moaning. People with children and without. I can't get to see the football on a Sat, i'm too tired to do anything on a Sat, i can't finish in time to pick the kids up from school .If all these people had actually Voted NO or even bothered to vote at all( everyone says they voted No) or even read the agreement before the vote, we wouldn't be in this situation. Regarding children. After school care until you finish possibly? Or a nursery?? Or even your wife or husband?? Season ticket holders. Tough, keep them and go when you can or give them up( i have a season ticket). Too tired on a Sat to do anything? Go for a sleep and go to the pub on Sat night. Always a solution to every problem that arises. Oh and btw i work from 6-2 5 days over 6 and will be changing possibly to 3-7. I have another job which i do 3 nights a week from 4-8. I only have an hour to get home a quick bite to eat and out again. Tough for me, but i'll just get on with it. Nothing we can do We voted yes for the 2010 agreement, end of!!!!! :Very Happy

Well the 3-7 will stuff your 4-8 job! Tough for you, but you'll just get on with it.

Royal Mail have to look after it's staff not because IT wants to, but because there are laws and regulations that they and every company has to follow.
