Might be a good idea to explain that D2D is unaddressed mail and shouldn't be taken home.tommythreesheds wrote:Quick question folks...............got in this morning to cover a day off......found out that the full timer had taken D2ds home to put together, so no D2ds left for me to cover my 20%. The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
Was informed today that the first person in my area is up for a conduct code for not doing as set out. IE 1/6 a day.
It will be interesting to see where this goes and might make alot of people think twice about the way they do them from now on.
Hopfully he won't be sacked but it's getting to be a serious issue now, so just use some common sense when it comes to doing them.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
Is there any guidlines to deliver all other addressed mail: clear office policy maybe ah no not a guidline just a simple rule no guidline needed.
Point is if d2d has to be delivered 1/6 a day no ifs no buts let RM drop the guidline crap and say that's the rule set in stone throughout country.
Let's not have some areas conducting people for doing what it says in agreement when other areas are not and are allowing colleagues to manage d2d themselves as per agreement.
It worries me that it comes across to me that some on here maybe think colleagues deserve to be conducted and are getting what they deserve.
If the d2d are getting delivered in the week time-frame show me were it says in the agreement colleagues will be conducted for not doing it 1/6 a day.

This is from another thread and is how it is done in my Area as agreed by CWU and my DSM
It also kind of tallys with the D2D guidelines a part of which Tweebs pasted in another thred.
And on your point of people being disiplined NO i don't want anyone to be conducted, but if it's agreed in an area how it's to be done ( and i agree with the 1/6 a day for reasons i have said else where and i think FT has as well )
you cannot really complain if a manager disciplines you for refuseing to follow the rules. I think that the postman who is up for a conduct is being done for "not following a resonable instruction from a manager"

How we manage Door to door in our office
• All deliveries will deliver any D2D items for their walk as part of regular workload.
• The number of items/ contracts will increase over time, in a phased way.
• Arrivals of D2D items must form part of the mandatory weekly resource meetings.
• Pouches must not exceed the weight limit as displayed in your unit.
• D2D mail will be on the frame by the start of duty each Monday. Designated duties to be identified to distribute items arriving each Saturday.
• Prep and deliver 1/6th of the D2D mail each day Including dead drops, starting each Monday with completion each Saturday . (See attached sheet)
• D2D items should be placed last into the prep frame after any walk sequenced or manual mails.
• All D2D should be delivered in line with product specification, by the required date of the contract.
• Items not being delivered that day should be stored neatly in boxes or trays beneath your prep frame.
• Everyone will complete a walk control sheet confirming D2D delivery.
• All surplus items are to be handed back to your line manager at the end of each week. The number returned will be recorded and remedial action will be taken, where required.
• Any issues experienced during the bedding in period (7/06/2010 to 22/06/2010) that cannot be resolved locally are to be raised immediately for resolution between the DSM and Area CWU Representative.
• Each prep fitting is to be split, by the walk holder into 6 equal parts. (Number of delivery points e.g. 660 divided by 6 equals 110 to be delivered daily.
• Starting at the top left of your prep frame and working from left to right count the delivery points, in the case above 110 and place a sticky dot. Continue this process until you reach the end of your frame in the bottom right hand corner.
• From Monday prep and deliver 1/6th of D2D Mail starting from the top left of your frame. Delivery of D2D items are to be completed with the final 1/6th being delivered on Saturday.
• It is extremely important that you all follow this process to ensure your day off cover duty delivers the correct 1/6th depending on your day off.
• Please note, Bank Holiday weeks: 1/5th of delivery points are to be delivered per day.
• If you feel you are unable to complete your delivery by your scheduled completion time, in line with normal requirements overtime is to be agreed with your line manager prior to departure.
• If a delivery is on absence overtime. The overtime volunteer is accountable for delivering the D2D mail due on that day.
• Where a walk is prepped for a bag carrier, by an individual performing a double prep, the D2D is to be prepped for the bag carrier in line with the above requirements of 1/6th per day.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
Geezer, I think I understand that the d2d agreement you have posted is a local one and is not a national agreement on the spec for doing them, forgive me if I am wrong.
What I find a little difficult to understand is why would your area have a local agreement that makes the conducting of staff over the delivery procedure of d2d easier for RM and over zealous Doms.
Why tie colleagues hands to one particular way of doing d2d when it was not necessary too by the terms of the national agreement.
Now I don't know the exact circumstances of the postie conducted in your area and whether if he had been able to manage the d2d himself that he/she wouldn't be in that position.
Well intentioned the local agreement may have been for certain aspects it does restrict colleagues way of performing job.

How does it restrict the way you do the job, the only thing i can see it restricting is lapseing, as you spend more time on your duty because of the dead walking. If you are saying that people want to do it their way so they can complete and get home earlier, then i'm sorry but thats not a reason for not having a system that spreads the delivery of D2D evenly for everyone.
It's done like this so there is no confusion as to what you have to do. If you are a floater and you are on different duties you look at the frame and can see the days marked out clearly and what part you have to deliver.
If you allow the duty holder to manage it and as i have said else where, what happens if he goes sick on say a wenesday, How do you know what D2D he has done already, has he put D2D in calls that he thinks might not get mail near the end of the week.If say he does go sick or has a days leave, what if he has decided not to do any D2D till near the end of the week when its busy, and the cover does'nt have time to clear them all who is to blame and who gets the bollocking.
If you don't have a system then by what means do you actually manage it, and if checks are made and people are saying they never received any how would you prove it was not the floater or the floater you when the manager accused either of you
of failing.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
I am not denying their is some merits to the 1/6 a day system.
All the possible difficulties you listed all happened pre June 7th and yet we managed(admit was unit payment in play then)
Your area has a local agreement which as I say has some merits but does conducting of staff as a result of agreement not outweigh the merits I would be interested to know if other areas are conducting staff over same issue.
Just my thoughts that's all.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
Agree with you in that i don't want anyone conducted. But if you know the rules then the choice is yours, to turn it around i don't want to be conducted because someone left the D2D and i got the blame.
I also think that RM will want this brought in around the country, because when the 6 lots of D2D come in we are going to see people not bothering with them because they still see them as junk and not live mail.
As to the Pre june bit, well i can tell you in my office we never managed, We had D2D piled all over the place floaters only did them if they could be bothered and a lot of duty holders who got paid for them never botherd to deliver any either.
And if anyone had time off sick or holidays you could bet your life when they got back there would be a plie of D2D's sitting there untouched, not on all rounds but on quite a few.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
I agree Geezer I can see it being a national model in the not so distant future, it has already been mentioned in my office but still optional at first.
And I have said previously when it comes to 5-6 d2d the guidlines are probably needed and would be best practice to follow.
Maybe some can't be trusted to do d2d without strict set out standards, just a little sad state of affairs in my opinion that people can't be trusted to manage themselves a little.
And will good colleagues face more pressure and conduct action.
But I
suppose a reasonable instruction is a reasonable instruction.
And finally thanks for all your download posts the info is invaluable and much appreciated.

Re: D2D rules about 1/6th a day
No prob's
Glad the posts are of help, Knowledge is power and at this time with revisions ect we need it more than ever before.
The new IWT and duty manager is going to be a nightmare for most of us and along with 6 lots of D2D the more you know the rules the safer you will be ( Hopefully )
FT & DVB have said a lot on this and if you read what they have had to say, i think you will find they have got it more or less spot on as to the problems we will all soon be facing.
I just hope that CWU HQ plays it's part and doesn't leave Office Reps to get on with it without the backup they and the members not only deserve but are entitled too.
Good Luck
