Postman stabbing: Suspect bailed

A MAN has been bailed in connection with a robbery which saw a postman stabbed with a hypodermic needle.

The man, in his 20s and from Peterlee, was arrested on suspicion of robbery after the postman was attacked from behind while on his rounds in the Oakerside Drive area of the town.

The suspect has since been bailed as Peterlee CID's inquiries continue.

The Mail reported on Tuesday that the 33-year-old victim was stabbed with the syringe in his left shoulder and then on his left hand when he tried to defend himself.

The incident happened around 11.30am on Thursday, July 15, in Tees Close, in an alleyway to the rear of Oakerside Drive.

The attacker made off with a parcel from the postman's mailbag in the direction of Welland Close.

Anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen anything unusual or suspicious is asked to contact Peterlee CID on 0345 6060365 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Is there anymore news on how the postman is doing? I know it takes time for blood results to be checked and double checked ( especially for Hep A, B & C as well as HIV ), but I for one want to hear the ( hopefully good ) news as soon as possible

He came into the office during the week and appeared in good spirits all things considered. Probably just putting a brave face on things to be honest.

Aside from the obvious blood tests, there are other things to consider. He cant have contact with his wife, if one of his children should cut themselves he cant treat the wound, little things like that that we all take for granted.

Now that they have someone they may have an idea whether it was a clean needle or not. Fingers crossed.
