One performer at the Edinburgh Fringe has taken extreme measures to get to his show next month - and is posting himself from Brighton to Scotland’s capital.
For the appropriately named Post me to the Fringe, which will document his journey in transit and starts on August 6, student Will Armstrong is planting himself in a box - with only six days until his show starts - to understand what some of the 84 million daily letters go through to get from A to B.
Taking with him only a can of slim fast, one or two pocket-pee-bags and a flip-cam to capture the moment, this journey won’t be ‘first class Virgin’ for the first-time postee, who’s travelling thanks to a private courier firm after the Royal Mail balked at the idea.
The stunt will subject the student’s resilience in dealing with cramped conditions and darkness compared to that of a boxed animal and will have to overcome the anxiety of being locked up during the journey from Brighton to Edinburgh.
Armstrong said: “The best way to decribe the idea coming about was that we thought everybody is individual and gets to the fringe in their own way, we wanted to be the only people to do it our way and make a show of it.
“I have always been a little curious of the journey of post, A to B in matter of hours, practically unattended, how does it do it?! We wanted to find out.”
Meanwhile his “associate in crime” Matt Bonner will be taking his own extreme methods to get to Edinburgh, using only public buses in the same time frame, with the pair discussing their unique experiences for the show.
Post me to The Fringe takes place at 1 pm from August 6 to 20 at Espionage, Lizard Lounge (Venue 185), Victoria Street.
