Full Timers Let Go AT My Office

We've been told there are to be job losses later in the year when modernisation comes in, yet jobs will be created in the mail centre.

I'd be interested to know where this happened? In my office there are now 18 temp contract people and about 14 of them are full time (including me). One is now approaching the all important 4 year mark, where I believe you're regarded as permanent in law, so it'll be interesting to see what happens to him.

A perfect example of the contempt, extreme contempt, that workers are held in by scum like Mark Higson, who incidently, will have been paid more in his short stint at RM, than any of those he casts on to the scrapheap, even if they had several lifetimes to live over, they would never earn as much as that lazy, useless, piece of excrement, even though they would have worked a damn sight harder than Higson ever will.
How unjust, unfair, disgraceful, is this treatment of hard-working colleagues? And how unjust, unfair, and downright disgraceful, is the knowledge that we have such a leech as Higson, and others, who do so little, yet get so much?
My hatred for tossers like Higson, Crozier, Tolhurst, grows by the day.

Today 7 or 8 full timers were told they will be let go in 2 weeks time, the reason was because when they joined they were given 3 yr trial periods and because they haven't completed 4 years royal mail doesn't have to recognize them as permanent. They are victims of a loophole, now this wasn't the doms doing it was HR who have been going through contracts to see who they can get rid off. This isn't hear say this actually happend at my office and our DOM said HR will be looking at doing this to all offices, they wasn't even going to get told till they got a letter tomorrow but the DOM felt it was only right to tell them face to face.



I have a question for the union reps who were on here defending the agreement, i heared a few of you say removing the door to door payments will protect jobs, well its been a couple of months and now this. Where are you now, please reply as now we all know that jobs are never protected and no agreement will ever do that because royal mail do what they like. If none of you who defended it respond to my question about jobs protection I will dig through old posts and start quoting you.

You could have 40 years service Coxie and they would be gunning for you or anyone. Managers are told Sack. Sack . Sack. But then again our manager tells us Royal Mail don't sack, we sack ourselfs..

No good asking the union for anything anymore. The union is in Royal Mail's pocket. That's how come more than half the workforce have just had what amounts to a pay cut. I'd like to see the response when they try and organise any strike action in the future. Atrocious treatment of people that have worked nearly 4 years for a company.

Letters have gone round in my office to people on 'fixed term' contracts who thought they were permenant. No one with less than 2 years service. Basically saying as soon as we dont need you your gone.

Nothing surprises me anymore with this lot, RM seem to reach new lows every day.

Oh yes, i suspect all contracts will be temp and nobody will ever last over 4 years now. The thing is that it is sickening some of these people have families and their own duties but royal mail dont care

If this was done by every Employer, we would be in a permanent recession as nobody will spend anything beyond the essentials as they don't know if they are working after 4 years.
