Now as you go down the list of seniority people will have a choice,do they take the walk they want or the partner they want. The driver/non driver thing may complicate things a little but shoudnt do too much, most people can drive and shouldn't restrict their choices by refusing to do so and non drivers should be able to pick a duty along seniority lines.
This was mentioned, but too many senior people didnt like the fact they may be paired with someone they dont like - they would rather be able to choose their partner and duty...so the reps are looking at alternatives to the existing seniority system due to demand.
Well I for 1 would not allow a situation like this to happen, just an example of many senarios
Most senior guy in office gets first pick of duties and pick of partner, let's say his son just started 6 months ago and he picks him therefore allowing said son to overide people with maybe 30 years service.
If this system you talk of Pick doesn't collapse in utter chaos and in fighting I will be amazed cause as sure as eggs are eggs some people will be & feel shafted.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

I dont see any alternative at present - if you stick to traditional seniority when sharing vans then you would have a situation whereby anyone could be paired with anyone - its a lottery. I know theres one or two people i could not work with at my office, if i were paired with them i'd probably hang myself.
The alternative is..you do it properly and everybody does a bit of growing up.
This is not football practice at school where nobody wants the fat kid....we are all supposed to be f**king adults.
Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrkinell,i work with some twonks but i'd rather work with my twonks than some of yours in this thread people.
It's simples isn't it,say 24 bods 12x2 lots of duties.
You go down the list, now if the walk i want has a twonk on it,i'll move on to the next one.
So i either work with a twonk and a nice duty or a diamond and a not so nice duty.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Management want park and poop, let them organise park and poop.
Well said Harry. Totally agree with you. It's for them to come up with these silly ideas, and us to prove they don't have a clue in organising anything.

It's NOT Executive Action where i would 100% agree with yous, there is an agreement to be used, possibly if some work hard enough to our advantage.
You put your head in the sand, when you look up,f**k knows what could be there.

Rubbish talk. What if you're not high up on the seniority list, and actually do get stuck with the fat kid? I expect you're number one in your office, and will choosing be your young athletic chum as a partner??

I agree as well. FCOL people we have men and women in Afghanistan and elsewhere where they get shot at for 6 months, do you think they get a choice on who they go on patrol with.
As postman said when its your choice check who is where on the duties and choose it based on that if your so concerned, perhaps this is one situation where juniority is actually a good thing.

Nobody should be picking anyone as a partner, you pick your duty and that's it.

Where are you delivering, darkest Africa?
Is this in relation to 20 minutes for a bundle? I like my bundles big
Yes, well enough of your private life, we are talking deliveries here I reckoned on delivering 100 houses every 30 minutes and I was in my late 50s then, semi and detached estate gardened and gated.

I thought i was the young athletic........well i'm not number one either.
When we went on P&L the deliveries to be used were decided jointly, though that may not be so much jointly as agreed by default, the people to be used on P&L were all full timers, removed from their town duties admittedly by individual agreement but more by coercion, you know the usual agree or we'll move you anyway. The longer it has gone on though the part time element has increased and there are now a mixture of full timers and part timers on the van with differing finish times - figure!
Sooooooooooo it never went to a repick or even a pick at all - now we will be increasing the P&L by about 100%, so we'll see how they go on with what will be the first repick in about 7 years!!!!!!
Management are here to manage Let them sort it out re. routes, where to park, how the walks are broken down to suit. So sit back and let the shyte hit the fan.
PhilthyPhil wrote:We don't have van sharing yet but I would have thought it should be pre-determined which walks will be paired before the sign up so that each walk is paired with a neighbouring one in order to maximise efficiency. Otherwise you would end up with senior guys pairing up with each other and choosing walks miles apart.
Agree, geography has got to determine it.
to avoid wasted travel and to ensure similar finish times.
