Moving Mail Centre - what really happens
As a member who faces mail centre closure can someone who has been through it explain what really happens. Were you forced to travel to another site even though you chose to stay on the pref form. What options were you given if you didn't want to go to a M/c miles away?

2:work in local delivery office.
they will be very tight lipped about VR right up to a few months before they close as they want the maximun
to choose deliveries etc. but if you have 4 years service the botttom rung of VR is about £7000 ish.
remember thats only 6 months pay!
They cant make you do deliveries as it is an entirly different job for which you may not be suitable
requires a certain level fitness mobility etc .
if you work nights you may get pay protection ie retain your n/s allowance on deliveries for 3 years.
make no mistake deliveries is tough and only consider it if your capable of walking 8 miles and
delivering to 500 houses in 4 hours.
every day of the week .
A few people get jobs on collections but lots of competition for these driving jobs .
ALL OPINIONS BASED ON WHAT HAPPENED TO COLLEAGUES IN MY AREA.
I'm a postman-and i know where you live.....

Re: Moving Mail Centre - what really happens
It varies from mail centre to mail centre and what is precieved as a reasonable job offer.
For example in Milton Keynes no one below the age of 55 was offered VR and jobs were offered in the New Northampton Mail Centre.
In the Oxford mail centre reasonable job offers were made on the basis of staff moving to Swindon. However a number of job offers were made.
It will also depend where you mail centre work is moving to both outward and inward and is covered in the second 90 day process as defined in the National agreement.
