When Royal Mail modernisation means a worse service

Post by Roy Mayall »

New sorting machines have taken the last skill from our job and pushed back delivery times. More change, not for the better.

Read the article here and add comments. Come on, let's tell the public what we think about all of these changes: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... es-arrived

Forget it, Roy. We live in a nation peopled by mug punters. These mug punters will soon have the postal service they thoroughly deserve. There is nothing you, or I, or anybody, can do to stop this travesty from happening. We are outnumbered, and outgunned, by a rampant mob of idiots with pretensions of fiscal savviness.
The same sort of rampant mob of idiots that all but handed over our publicly-owned utilities to the criminal cartel that now almost holds us to ransom.
The thing I hate most about this rampant mob of idiots, is this, they never learn.

I'm afraid Dirty Harry is right. Most of the general public don't want to know or don't care.
All that will happen when they get their mail after 4pm is that they will blame the delivery
postie for being lazy, or the 'militant' unions.

Sad....but true Harry.
People in this country like to talk about pride, honesty, freedom and democracy but unfortunately nowadays when they are asked to stand up and fight for any of these things they tend to run home and hide behind their curtains.
It is sad to say but this country is now mainly populated by sad, apathetic muppets who will buy into anything spouted by any so-called leader who pops up on the 6 o'clock news.
Their pensions, jobs and futures devoured by greedy bankers and 30%+ public spending cuts announced to pay for it and what happens.............f**k all.
The bankers walk away with the money,we pick up the tab and everyone just buys a thicker pair of curtains to hide behind.
If i could find the money to leave i would be on a plane out of this sh*thole in a heartbeat. :cuppa

And I for one, greatly appreciate it! If only we had more people like you, to put the truth out there, instead of the usual anti-Postie propoganda. Another great article. :Applause :Applause

I would tend to agree with yours and Fishtanks assessment of the General Public but even though the odds look daunting I think its still a fight worth having.

I wish I could say the same, TBT.
What fight there was in me, and God knows there was a fair old bit, was completely knocked-out of me on November 5th 2009 when that fat twat Billy hayes and his equally fat twat sidekick Dave Ward sold us out, called off our strikes, and for what? To "save Christmas" for the very people whose indolence all but ensures that this nation's postal service becomes the plaything of a handful of very wealthy people. Never mind that we all fighting for a decent working life, and then be sold out by our own union, then get given a deal that does absolutely nothing to improve conditions for postal workers, but goes a helluva long way towards taking postal workers even further backwards than we already were.
I've fought battles with management for over 30 years, and I now find myself in a job that is most definately worse, than when I first went into it, and is getting worse all the time.
There's a time to fight, there's also a time when we must realise the utter futility of it all, especially when we now have enemies not just in the RM camp, but also in the CWU, self-serving buffoons like Bob Gibson, enough of the PEC to ensure no bad deal is ever scuppered.
The CWU doesn't listen to it's members, it dictates to it's members. Well, if that's the way they want it, f**k 'em, and f**k their campaigns. :evil/mad

It was voted in by the members, the ultimate responsibilty lies there.
No I'm not being paranoid, they really are out to get me.

But unfortunately the Great British Public generally just swallows what is fed to them by the politicians and media. :arrrghhh

What bullsh1t! It was voted in by a minority of the membership who could be bothered to vote after a whistle stop circus by senior members of the CWU backed up by lick spittle supporters saying it was the only deal - in fact one wag called it the "deal of the century" - I assumed he meant this century until I realised he was talking about the 19th century.

As predicted, when the doo doo hits the fan it is in the hands of the YES voters, never mind the fact that they had nothing whatsoever to do with the negotiations, never mind the fact that many of the supposed advantages turned out NOT to be the case, never mind that "nothing is agreed until everything is agreed" months AFTER the agreement is STILL being discussed. It would lead you to think that the CWU has the same leadership as the Italians in WWII.

I quite agree with Dirtyharry, forget any campaign, it will amount to nothing, I mean how's the pension campaign going three years down the line?

Actually, I think the responsibility lies with the lazy fools, who couldn't be bothered to vote. :hmmmm

Partially Andy..but not all of them were just being lazy.
A great deal of them simply decided not to vote because they couldn't support the deal but were frightened by the consequences of a NO vote.
That was the whole intention of the unions "No Plan B" stance...and it worked.
As for those who voted Yes ,they voted on the agreement in the main on the information contained in the material sent to them by the CWU which was hardly a complete, unbiased view of what was to come.

Most importantly though they are not to blame for negotiating such a poor deal from what was arguably the strongest position we will be in for a long, long time to come.
It is becoming more and more obvious that our side were way,way out of their depth during these negotiation as more and more issues get thrown up which seem to always fall on the side of management.
The blame lies at the feet of the CWU negotiators and that is where it must stay, they brokered it,spent a great deal of money selling it and you can be sure if it had been a good deal...they would have taken the credit for it.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
