Whilst I can see how walk sequenced mail will help to get *other* jobs thrown off, for someone like me who knows his fitting it's not only going to be monotonous but will be just the same as throwing off households and the higher rows will just give me a dead arm.

They sure have spent alot of time, money and effort for something which is going to save less than ten minutes on the whole job. I hope they think it's worth it.

On an individual basis there is no point in WSMs. However, lets say there are 65,000 (a low estimate I think) that will be sequenced each day even on a low estimate of 8 minutes saved per duty per day that means over the whole of RM they save:

8,666 hours per day

52,000 per week

2,704,000 per year

So in the real world its worth nothing - However, for bean counters and higher management its a wet dream.

I think RM pointed out quite clearly that the object of the exercise was to make it idiot proof, to do away with any perception of skill and replace the preparation by rote making delivery as simple as possible and as late as possible, thereby giving Mrs Bored housewife something to do between dropping the kids off at school and picking them up again.

WSM makes for a win-win situation as far as management is concerned. It means that they can afford to drive our wages and T&C's into the ground, knowing full well that if it results in a transitory workforce then they will still be able to do the job as well as any old timer.

How many peeps have started the job to find out its not as easy as us old guard make it look.

In the fifteen years Ive worked here Ive seen loads of peeps fall by the wayside because they either cant do the job to any kind of standard, are thieving bar stewards or are just feckin lazy.

Possibly not as well, but they should be out the door in fairly short order compared to how things are currently, which is all management care about. And how many new starts do you know who regularly book overtime when they go over? They don't book it in our office - the docket is always empty whenever I check it (which, admittedly, is quite rare as the lino seems to hide it up Lord Lucan's Sphincter).

Working by TBT's figures, if RM save 2,704,000 hours per year, taking an approxiamate £10 per hour (for arguments sake) thats £27m. Going on from that even if they cost £100m, in 4 years they will have paid will have paid for themselves.............

Like it a lot - will there be plenty of pictures - and will the centrefold have a staple belly button? C'mon Rocky Tolstoy is far too light a reading for blokes with a 90 minute delivery and an hour for lunch - I mean what would you be reading after lunch?
