It's simple, if there are 20 trays of letters to sort in a given time frame and just me and someone else was sorting them, if the other person only sorted 7 trays I'd end up doing 13.

No Mr Blonde if the standard expected was 10 trays each in this "given time frame" you would still be expected to sort........10 trays.
His performance is not connected to yours.

So if there's just two of us to do the work and the other person only does 7 trays, are you saying I should stop once I've done my tenth? Who does the other three?

We get called up at 6.20am and are normally off about an hour later. Absorbtion is 4 rounds with 6 to each walk.

When we started we had nearly everyone absorbing but many have skived off

one hours sorting..are you serious?, we normally do 2 hours minimum, but then my section is central Reading RG1 with 12 firms jobs, therefore much more mail.

No what i am saying is the standard you are expected to work at is not affected by the standards of those around you.
You simply continue to work to the same standard and leave the resourcing and the application of these standards to management.
If the IPS runs over and you do not have time to complete your delivery again this is a management issue not yours.
It's quite simple really....you start on your time....in between you do whatever work is in front of you .....and then you finish on your time.
Getting involved in how others are doing the job will only give you an ulcer, cause ill-feeling between you and your colleagues and possibly end up with you facing conduct charges.
Why would anybody go down that route...there is in my opinion enough grief in this job as it is.

Clearly - you all cannot read, or just choose not to,i was not having a dig for not wanting to take extra, but as he said,
do as little as possible for as much as possible. Anybody who thinks this a good work ethic is bonkers in this day & age.
Still lets all do as little as possible & speed up our demise, god forbid some people may want this business to thrive.
Let me ask you this - if this was your business & your livelihood depended on it - would you really wantemployees
with that work ethic - probably not

Broxi51 wrote:You and Stevie agree that it is people like Shimmy that are ruining it for RM but it is actually you two that are ruining it for honest, hard working posties. RM expect us to do a fair days work within our contracted time and most of us do that except the fly like a blue a*sed flea brigade who do more cause they want finished earlier. This in turn puts pressure on those who work at a rate that is ACCEPTED by RM & CWU as the managers see one person completing a tray of letters, throwing a walk off or delivering faster than others and think that is the rate all should go at and because of that it is us who get pressured on a daily basis by management. Some will stand up like Shimmy and refuse to be pressured and get OT but others will take more than they should to keep managers off of their back and all because some posties feel the need to rush round.
What happens if someone faster than you joins RM and management take their speed as the norm and then pressure you into working faster.
We all work at different speeds and do not need fellow posties who want to rush round tell us that we are taking the p*ss.

Fishtank is perfectly right, the only "performance" anyone of us has to worry about, is our own. Not the bloke's next to you, not the bloke's in front of you, not the bloke's behind you, only your own "performance" should matter to you.

As for the "performance" of others, there are people employed for the chasing up of so-called "shirkers", they're called DIM DOMs, and are usually drawn from the ranks of the laziest, workshy, shower of shirkers ever to disgrace a RM delivery office. :evil/mad

Fair comment but this is all in response to someone who says that their aim is to do as little as possible for as much money as possible.

Anyone who has to work shoulder to shoulder with somebody with an attitude like that would struggle to turn thy other cheek.

Was the quote 'Do as little as you can for as much money as you can'?

How long have you worked for RM? Do you not realise that the more you do, that more is expected of you each and every day. There is no thank you from RM for going faster than the agreed speed, there is no extra money for going faster. The only thing you get for going faster is longer deliveries
Shimmy is asked by his dom to take out the extra on OT. His dom will realise that his work rate is fine and that he will be over by taking extra and is willing to pay for it or he would get tested, so why should you question it.

The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.
