Why? Because I tire of the same posters on here slagging off others just because they think all delivery offices are like their own?
No because you point out that your office and walk is so far away that you have to use a car.
The majority use their cars in our office purely because of the geographical anomaly. Whats your office like? In the middle of town?
And
I doubt any of those who jump on car users are in poorly placed offices.
And
Our old office used to be great for biking out to deliveries, although at the time there wasn't the sheer weight of mail / number of pouches but being in this location really does make a difference.
You also admit to losing jobs..
We used to have a number of crew buses but over the years they were used less and less because it's easier to take the car and go straight home.
This nugget.
like the one that I work out of that suffer from penny pinching and poor planning and make using the car a viable option.
You started the thread for...........well i don't know what for.

Whats your point Postman?

Lots of "and's" there but no explanation.

You need to accept that there are people who are happy to do their job their own way. Using my car is for my own convenience and it seems to work for the majority of people in my office who also use theirs.

Maybe we're lucky, maybe our jobs aren't as big as others, who knows? After all, no two deliveries are the same, no two offices are the same and get this, I doubt that there are two postmen that are the same.

Indeed, park and loop will see up need to alter our ways of working as it will affect those who aren't "assholes / runners / car users" etc

Not necessarily blondie, there is a loophole - take a look in the Q&A Guidelines - there is still the possibility for some to use their cars - it depends on how lax the restriction is empowered in each location.

Blimey i did not know about the loophole  I am sure no one at our place knows about it and i hope it stays that way

I think the insurance issue will finish it for good though as there have been police checks around the country and posties fined.

For me its a case of been there, done that, and paid the price, and never again :cry

However the long winded argument about the use of private cars on delivery is now slowly coming to a close.

Under the new agreement and based on the park and loop revision both the Union and Royal Mail have agreed that car use will be banned and therefore this debate will go away all by itself. :confused
Wellllllllllllllllll not quite krussel, because according to the new agreement within the recent Q & A on the Guidelines you will find:

What isolated cases may exist where Royal Mail would retain private car use?

There may be a limited number of cases where it is suitable for an individual to retain their private car for use on delivery. DOMs may exceptionally need to address short term operational issues or ongoing health problems typically covered within DDA (for example, where the use of a personally adapted vehicle presents a more suitable option for the individual and supports inclusivity in the workplace). All cases will be assessed on an individual basis.

Soooo depending on the DOM, the size of the office and the circumstances, private cars willl not be banned.

Nobody seems to be able to address the insurance bond issue, then again .........that's not the only unresolved issue
Did you read your own post? :hmmmm
This so-called loophole you found, is primarily intended to protect the needs of people with disabilities (e.g. the need for a Motorbility car). Although, in EXCEPTIONAL cases, it could be used as a SHORT TERM ONLY solution. :d'oh! :arrrghhh :hmmmm

Try again! :chuckle :chuckle

Andy how do you know what it's primarily intended for.....or what is EXCEPTIONAL or what is SHORT TERM.

And anyway....A loophole in a law often contravenes the intent of the law without technically breaking it that's why it's called a loophole.

An exceptional situation, is something which is an exception to the norm. For example: A van breaks down, and they can't get a replacement in time. It isn't an everyday situation. :hmmmm

Short term, means over a limited amount of time. Not a long term situation.

As exceptional circumstances are exactly that: The exception to the norm. And people with Disabilities will continue to have those problems long term. The primary use, must by definition, be to accomodate those Posties who have a disability.

It's elementary, my dear Watson. Err, I mean Fishtank. :chuckle

WOW!!

Read through the first several pages of this thread and stopped to post. Read it all before anyway :speak to the hand

As far as the individuals who use their car, come in early, don't take break, run etc.........I can't wait till p&l comes in nationwide.

What do you think is going to happen when you are paired up with someone in the office who does the job properly??

You come in an hour early??? Still going to have to wait on your colleague who starts at his official time!!

You want to run round your delivery?? Still going to have to wait on your colleague who has a bit more regard for their health and safety!!

You want to be finished for a certain time?? Not going to happen if your colleague is taking his break entitlement every day!!
I guess you could always continue to work and cover your colleagues part when he's relaxing in the van with some scran listening to the tunes??

Ok then Sherlock would you like to try and nail that down a bit for a stage 1 disagreement. :chuckle :hmmmm

If someone comes in to do a spot of overtime to cover a duty and there isn't a van for them does my DOM say...
a) Just go home we have to fail the walk because we don't have a van.
b) This is an exceptional situation could you just use your car?

How long is short-term?, i say 1 day...my DOM says 1 month....who's right?
What do you go to disagreement with....a differing opinion of the definition of the words exceptional and short-term.
