changing to walk sequencing

Post by mcc868 »

I currently work on the early shift in a mail centre but we are getting rid of our lsms as the new walk sequencing machines are being installed.our union reps are telling us that our jobs are safe on that shift, but some managers think different.the hours proposed on wsm are 2300 to 0930 and 2130 to 0730. but the union hasnt agreed to that YET and no one wants to work those hours after working 6 to 2 for so long some with 20 to 30 years service . has anyone been in the same situation and what was the outcome.

It is true that the running of the CSS walk sequencing machines will be 2300 -0930 or 10. As it will be clearing the two waves of traffic and filling in the reports at the end of the shift. They will be based on 4 night weeks and 2 hours on the machine and two hours on other work.

Now whether that effects you on the early shift will depend what work you currently do and whether that work is now done by the CSS machine.

If it is then it will have an impact , if it does not then no. But remember the plan is to go to one outward pass and one inward pass which will obviously impact on jobs in every mail centre.

our mail centre is in the process of getting wsm,s and i am 1 of 8 lsm operators who will be losing their duties,at present the duties for these wsm are on the board but there are no duty details just times.these duties will not be filled on a seniority basis in fact to apply you have to go online and answer various questions and at the end of the questions you calculate your score and you are told how you done and whether you will move to the next stage.as of yet no one knows what the next stage is eg a further test or an interview.so i was just wondering what methods were used in other mail centres to fill the vacancies on these new machines, there are 8 lsm operators losing their duties all of which have in excess of 15 years service, and we are supposedely getting 8 wsm,s why are the lsm operators not being given 1st refusal on these duties.does anyone know if the union in their office has agreed to this method of selection for the new wsm duties in their office.any feed back would be gratefully appreciated as we have a sneaky suspicion that what management are doing is creating the circumstances were they can hand pick the people who get these new duties regardless of their seniority.thanks .

We had the last of 8 css fitted recently, and they are only used on the night shift. We are in the process of a FULL office resign, because all the LSM's apart from 1,have gone,so 3 shifts have lost their LSM duties. Was under the impression that if a certain percent of duties are lost or changed, that a full resign was complusory (maybe any union reps could clarify this?).If this is correct, then i'd have thought seniority was the main basis for allocation of duties? :hmmmm
same as it ever was...

I believe that a third of jobs have to change to have a re-sign,and then only duties that have changed would be included in the re-sign,and on top of that you have pay protection (MTSF) which also narrows down the amount of duties that would go into the pot.

I think Roger's right that 33% of jobs need to have been changed to trigger a full resign.
In our MC though, all jobs go into a resign, though under the Way Forward you are supposed to be
able to keep your job if no change has been made to it.
Also, because of MTSF, jobs on nights are ringfenced for existing night duty holders, as management
will not agree to someone being knocked off nights and retaining their night shift allowance, and then
also having to pay the night shift allowance to someone who picks up their duty.
