Union Rep suspended

Post by Stampy »

Speaking to a friend who works in Peterborough Mail Centre this afternoon..

Apparently, one of their Union Rep's has been suspended for putting a notice on the wall asking for the "Secret Society" within the Union and Management to actually RELEASE information to staff that are affected by Office Closures instead of sitting on them until the last minute.

Apparently the Rep was "shopped" by his OWN colleagues in the Union.

Staff in the Mail Centre are getting info through "Chinese Whispers", as when they ask for info they are told "We know nothing" with a smile from Management.

Rumour also of a few Office Closures in the P'boro area.
And after a while, you can work on points for style,
Like the club tie, and the firm handshake,
A certain look in the eye and an easy smile.

You have to be trusted by the people that you lie to,
So that when they turn their backs on you,
You'll get the chance to put the knife in.

Part of the deal was an agreement between the union and Rm to only make joint statements.

So you think it's appropriate for the Rep to be suspended, for putting a request for information on the board? :arrrghhh
So long as it wasn't worded in an offensive way, I can see no justification for a suspension. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it sounds like harrasment! :hmmmm

No, I said 'part of the deal was an agreement between the union and Rm to only make joint statements'. Not saying whether its fair or not, just that thats what was agreed and why it may have been taken down. Read the agreement.

I wonder what the charge will be?
Why was he suspended, on what charge?
I will haveto have a read through the conduct code again, my memory needs refreshing.
No I'm not being paranoid, they really are out to get me.

Presuming this is an accurate reflection of the notice i can't see where he was asking for anything other than a joint communication.

And what about the New Ways Of Working, Being Open and Honest.

This stinks, If i wanted to know something and my manager held back, That would be the end of any co-operation from me END OF !

And to Pick on a Rep because he wants to be able to give answers to his work colleges, Remember them the ones he REPresents is totally unacceptable.
I also hope the workforce are supporting him with this and not just letting the manager get away with it. :arrrghhh

Thats to be expected not just in PE but all over the UK. It is a well known RM policy to reduce the number of sites they use.

If RML formally propose /inidcate this to the CWU in the PE postcode area then logic assumes RML will have spent some time planning the proposed closure and it is that planning period that can give rise to rumours and chinese whispers.

Apparently - one of the local Offices shuts this WEEKEND, and all their staff are being moved into the Mail Centre...

Will try to get my mate to get a copy of the said letter.

Indeed - Welbeck Way DO, Oundle DO & Stamford DO are all amalgamated into one office...

I can't see anything wrong in that. It's certainly more diplomatic than I assumed, from the earlier description. There's certainly nothing I can see that could possibly justify any disciplinary action. I hope that once this is cleared up. The Rep makes an official complaint about being suspended in bad faith, rather than there being any real reason for it. :hmmmm

RML have taken no action of any sort against the rep.

It is his CWU credentials that are suspended.

The issues(s) behind the suspension are in the hands of CWU HQ and they and they alone will decide how to resolve the situation.

Local CWU branches can suspend credentials but only HQ can doing anything else.

I would ask that we leave this issue here and let it be sorted out without becoming a cause for internet gossip.

That said if anyone wishes to debate the CWU rule book when it comes to matters of internal discipline please go ahead and start a topic in union room.

Thanks

I will have to check my list but I think the offices listed are the ones I have mentioned in a previous thread about not being scheduled to have WS mail and that it was wondered if RMl had closure plans for them. However just because there is not WS mail scheduled does not mean closure is on the cards as CWU/RML have agreed how those offices get their 1000 pounds.

Wether RML have formally told the CWU at any level thay they are shutting D.Os in the PE area I do not know. Were on earth they would put RAMSEY is beyond me as the main office in the cluster is having CSS machines so no space, that leaves two other D.O's in the cluster and one of them isnt really big enough as it is. As for the remaing D.O I have never seen it so no idea as to any spare space.

Space may only be a temporary issue if the final solution lies in an industrial estate somewhere close by.
You can throw up what is basically a big shed(our D.O.) in a matter of weeks.
