Funnily enough, I dont use a car and finish my duty on average before 12.30.

Guy on last Thursday does use his car, he finished 13.30.

Hmmmm, something not right there.

It’s nobody’s fault, Mr Blonde other than that arch villain “job & finish”. We have all taken advantage of it and enjoyed it when we can but the reality is that it is responsible for a lot of our current difficulties.

As you say, you use your car to save you a little time. My guess is though that if you were made to work your full 8 hours a day then you would be less inclined to spend your own money supplying RM with free transport.

Until such time as “job & finish” is laid to rest, it’s hard to have a go at those that choose to try to work the system to their advantage.

New agreement, no cars, and those who continue after, well :wave :wave :wave

Indeed, as I said, we'll have a culture shock when things change, on both sides of the fence.

But the point in starting this thread was to bemoan those who slag off car users at the drop of a hat when all I wanted to say was that no one delivery is the same and there are offices, like the one that I work out of that suffer from penny pinching and poor planning and make using the car a viable option.

I doubt any of those who jump on car users are in poorly placed offices.

Lancaster delivery office - http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?client=op ... CBYQ8gEwAA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - that looks pretty central to me.

One anti-car poster has Lancaster as his or her location.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

TIme for people to get real. Whether people use thier cars or not has feck all to do with increased workload/cut in jobs. The Job was "Job and Knock" you were supposed to finish earlier it was what made up for the lack of social life caused by unsociable hours. Yet now the vast majority who used to use thier cars have finally decided its all wrong. Typical, just like someone who has given up smoking and become the anti smoker from hell, these former sinners now preach as if they are whiter than white because it now suits them.

It's easy to blame the car users for the disasterous transition RM is going through but you are throwing your rocks at the wrong target.

RM has been poorly managed for decades, with bosses skimming off profits and failing to pay pensions. The DSA pricing, combined with this bad management has meant things would have to change.

Do you people seriously think that if everyone stopped using thier cars RM would hold back on the changes and increase the amount of employees?

Profit, profit, PROFFFFFFFFFIT! That's what counts so stop wasting your time blaming people just because they need to use thier cars. You might be lucky and not have commitments. I don't have to pick up children, look after elderly relatives, etc. But I work with many who do and they have to finish asap. So who the hell are you to tell them the RMs fall into chaos is all thier fault? Let those without sin cast the first stone.... oh look no rocks flying now are there?

No one NEEDS to use their car at all, they do it to simply shave time off their duty,So whilst I agree its not the root of all evil, they are definatly giving RM free time, and a false impression on how a FOOT walk is operating.
Our office is a joke, probably 80% of peeps using cars,We even had one person that had his frame working around where the car was parked,so when It came to walking it,it made no sense at all.for example 76 bu********* crescent was at the side of 52 ke**** road, which happens to be about half mile away.this is where you would park your car next, but totally useless to footwalkers.not to mention trying to get keys for a dropbox that hasnt been used in years,so you have nada chance of getting keys for it.
Biggest joke of all is our union rep preaching about using cars, and he's the first one to drive out the car park, and always the first to finish his walk,bu hey!,our rep has a special relationship with the gaffers.he doesn't bother them if they don't bother him<<<<another joke.

They are only giving the RM free time if they work over thier time. If they finish early they are giving themselves time.... time which some people need due to life commitments  Any non car user can still cut off. Just because someone on a round uses thier car and finishes early doesnt mean the next person on that round has to do the same! They can work to thier time if that's what they choose to do, and before you say "but the management will pull them up for it because the last person could finish" there's an easy and simple response "they use thier car and I don't!"

As for your union guy. Surprisingly enough our union rep was spitting feathers when people used thier cars... right up until the point where it suited him and he needed to use his car. He was a bag drop driver and one saturday he told everyone to use thier cars and take thier own bags out because he wanted to finish early :speak to the hand

In general a large proportion of car users/flyers/before their start time posties have always displayed a superior attitude to posties that do the job correctly and therefore take longer to do thier walks. This plays into the hands of managers and office bullies. Banning of cars can't come quick enuff !!
