What about the reps, did they not tell it how it is?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

when royal mail dangled that £400 carrot in front of our noses,it was put there as an incentive to vote yes to the new deal!!!
at no time did royal mail say that the £400 was linked to colleague shares!!
Royal Mail didn't dangle the carrot.....your union did.
It was the CWUs insistance that the £400 was offered on ratification of the agreement.
Royal Mail wanted ALL lump sums tied into targets.
The CWU has always been against the Colleague Share system.
It is and always has been my opinion that EVERYONE should have been sent a copy of the agreement however it was available to download from here and the CWU website before the ballot opened and it does state in the agreement that the £400 was in place of the june dividend.
utter tosh!!! why oh why would the cwu be against the colleague shares scheme when it benefits its members?
the cwu may well have insisted that the £400 be offered on ratification. it was not linked to colleague shares!!
nationally we have been duped into believing we were going to recieve a payment in june.there is no arguement!!!
im guessing by reading yor replies that you may well be a manager yourself!!
fishtank stated that the document was readilly available.....
i and many others im sure all over the country, were not sent a document. or were we ever told of a link to a website so we could download it!!

the reps were told exactly the same as us!! our union rep was stood there when our manager told everyone that we would be getting the payment in june!!
even the union has been led to believe that the £400 was forthcoming!!

Because it was seen at the time as a)..a bribe in return for savings b)...the first step towards privatisation.

I can assure that upon creation of CS the CWU were against it, they belived that the money should be put into basic pay, so its not about taking away something that benefits members but taking the money that funded it and doing something different with it.

Over the last few years CS money has been apid out on differing triggers as CWU has allways tried to to move the dividend away from business targets and and link it to a different trigger.

Looking at the agreement and the exact words the agreement itself appears to me to be crystal clear, somehow a person/persons have got it totally wrong and misinformed you. The rep certainly should have made sure the mbrs in the D.O understand what the proposal was. What could be causing confusion is that the criteria for being elligble to receive the £400 was reviewed post payment and the eligbilty was extended thus some people got a CS payment at a later date

ColleagueShare/Lump Sums
As part of these negotiations Royal Mail and CWU have reviewed the ColleagueShare scheme. As a result the scheme has been enhanced in the following areas:
-
The 2010 dividend payment linked to business results due to be announced in June has been brought forward and the dividend will now be paid on ratification of the agreement.

£400 lump sum (previously final ColleagueShares dividend) paid to all employees upon ratification of agreement.

Just to make certain that everyone knows that Management at all levels were aware that there was no payment in June here is a presentation slide about the 2010 Deal that managers could get off the Intranet or at a managers briefing.

managers 2010 brief slide 25.jpg
There it is in black, white and red in the last paragraph.

im getting the picture now guys. yet im still somewhat bemused by blueterrier's post about the slide!!
if that is the case blueterrier then.....
1-why did company chairman mark higson release a memo dated june 3rd 2010 stating that "all eligable full time employees will recieve thier £400 cs payment in june?

2-why then did mr higson release a further memo dated june 4th 2010 stating that "all eligable managers will recieve thier £400 cs payment in june?

and 3-if the first memo was a mistake or indeed incorrect, why did royal mail management carry on letting us beleive that the payment was forthcoming?

you may not know the answers blue, and i doubt anyone will come forward any time soon to explain what went wrong and why!!!

the workforce can surely be forgiven for being miffed at such a cockup!!!

the fact remains that regardless of what the agreement states,we have been led to believe that we were getting £400 in june!!

thats what annoys me most about the whole thing!!

To answer question 1, I think it may have been because they changed the rules on eligability after payment in May and this allowed some people to get the payment in June which they did.
It was allways cleary stated in agreement that the £400 payment on ratification replaced the colleague share money.
Now I started a thread before the ballot critising the CWU for not sending each member a copy of agreement before ballot.
But in hindsight maybe they were right not to bother if 50 000+ couldn't be bothered to put a cross in a box how many would have bothered to read a 90 page document
We the members and non members are our own worst enimies and RM know that and on this occasion so did the union and they knew how to get a yes vote, and we fell into trap ever so easy like taking candy from a baby and it will never change, don't blame anyone but ourselves.
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

incompetence did indeed cross my mind at some point.
if such incompetence were shown by a member of the workforce,he/she would be shown the door!!
something i doubt very much will happen here.
golden handshake and a thankyou very much will be more like it.

As stated in a previous post,I GET IT NOW!!!! So keep your "witless saps" remarks!!!!
I'm anything but. I did actually vote against the new deal. At least I was one of the few who cared and were bothered enough to do so!!! Those 50,000+ muppets who didn't vote, surely qualify for the title "witless saps"!!!

My guess is that only CWU represented grades within the Letters division got the May payment (Transformation Lump Sum). But Parcel Force, Quadrant, CMA Grades and POL did not so he was referring to them when he says "eligible".
postiej wrote:2-why then did mr higson release a further memo dated june 4th 2010 stating that "all eligable managers will recieve thier £400 cs payment in june?
Because Managers are CMA grade and did not get the £400 lump sum in May like we did, which meant they got the CS dividend instead.
postiej wrote:and 3-if the first memo was a mistake or indeed incorrect, why did royal mail management carry on letting us beleive that the payment was forthcoming?
I am guessing that would be local management and TBH it is incompetence but all of us have seen instances of Managers not understanding agreements and some seem barely able to understand the daily processes in a DO.
postiej wrote:you may not know the answers blue, and i doubt anyone will come forward any time soon to explain what went wrong and why!!!
Your right I don't know for a fact this is what happened but it is in my opinion the most likely reason.

Yes you certainly can be forgiven for being upset that management briefed you wrong. But also the CWU must take some of the blame for not doing everything they could to ensure members understood the agreement fully by ensuring they all got a copy, or that one was available for anyone who wanted to read it in every office. However, ultimately everyone has to take some responsibility for ensuring that they understand an agreement and how its going to affect them personally.

EXACTLY.

And ultimately, anyone who is unsure of whether to vote for or against an agreement should take steps to find out what is in that agreement. If that means getting hold of your CWU Rep and demanding a copy of the full agreement, then that's what you do. Your subs pay for your representation at local level, but that doesn't mean you should abdicate all responsibility for looking after your personal interests and vote Yes just because someone said there's £400 in it if you do. You know RM - they don't give lump sums without there being some sort of catch! It's only common sense to want to read the full agreement.

A rep when I first started at RM gave me the following advice: always vote NO unless you have read the agreement and fully understand the ramifications of what voting Yes will mean. But always, always, always USE your vote.

To the 50,000 who didn't vote last time: don't come whining to me about any aspect of the agreement !!!!!
