Re: Workshops
It's quite simple the 3 hour workshop which is presented by the divisional rep and a program manager and the two day course is about the iwt and peagsus with the span indicator , duty model and batch planner thrown in for good measure.

Thanks for that Dingo.dingo wrote:It's quite simple the 3 hour workshop which is presented by the divisional rep and a program manager and the two day course is about the iwt and peagsus with the span indicator , duty model and batch planner thrown in for good measure.
So our rep will be getting a 2 day course?
So when he and the Dom hold their joint WTL next week we can tell them that until the rep has been given the 2 day course revision activity should not go ahead.?
Its not that we have any great problem with the rep but he doesnt seem to be getting proper info from the area rep.

2 days.....
S0.... minus lunch, coffee and smoke breaks the reps have about 12 hours to get up to speed on IWT,Pegasus, the Span Indicator the duty model and the batch planner.
Well our "planner" has been playing about with various versions of these "tools" for almost a full year so it's nice to know that we are all on a level playing field.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Workshops
Amazing how many planners have managed to creep out of the woodwork just as the excess managers come to the fore - makes you wonder what is going to happen to the "planners" as the revisions come in over the next three years and the need for "planners" decreases.fishtank wrote:dingo wrote:It's quite simple the 3 hour workshop which is presented by the divisional rep and a program manager and the two day course is about the iwt and peagsus with the span indicator , duty model and batch planner thrown in for good measure.

In fact as the MCs close and the DOs become merged would it be necessary to have the same organisation within the CWU - I wonder if that was what was meant when the reorganisation was mooted within the agreement - you know fewer full time release because the new understanding and inclusive planning et al would mean that there are less disputes to be settled

Re: Workshops
there seems to be an awfull lot of tools involved in all this, one way or another

Re: Workshops
The point of the workshops was to take the divisonal reps through the changes to the IWT and for any other issues to be raised such as the fact that whilst redirictions are covered at the frame they are not accounted for when you take them to the town corner or ex phg duty holder , or that the missort retrival is not always counted, or bespoke activiites or the seg of return to sender items.
The IWT has been up graded and will be tested in the Gatwick area within the next two weeks as live testing.
We then had the discussion over the model weeks managements perfered options are weeks 11 -17 or weeks 41 -44. Weeks 11 -17 which was the June /July period was not good for those who took a lot of strike action last year and off course weeks 11 -17 had the snow.
Royal Mail`s perfered option is to staff levels on the lowest traffic period so that it is about flexing up to meet higher traffic periods. Whilst this would certainly mean that absorbtion would in the main cease , would management really put more hours into offices who are not in the upper decile of offices when traffic is heavy. Years ago we did have traffic related payments but that was under a completely different Royal Mail.
Remember the IWT measures the time the work arrives on the platform until it leaves the office. However there are aspects which it misses which needs to be challenged.
The main inputs are basic input which is the traffic from the office to the number of deliveries and hours against workload , firms etc. Then the local inputs which are distances within the office , traffic flows , secondary sorting , types of frames etc. Then you have the delivery part ie redirections , dead letters, arrival of mail and batch, collect PS ITEMs, delivery method, PDA, collect uniform ie waterproofs etc.
The course covers in details the IWt and all the other aspects of delivery which when i have time will post up. The course wont make you an expect and its is heavy going but it will assist area and local reps and quite frankly it wont matter how long a planner has been working on the tools if your not happy with its contents you dont move to the next stage of the 6 step revison process. Remember the planner is their to assist in the systems it is the local reps and the dom who agree or disagree the revision.

Re: Workshops
Dingo
Just a quick question, can Managers use the IWT now to bring in lapseing.
The way i see it the answer is NO as there are bits of it that are still not agreed. I ask because my Manager went to see our Temp DSM yesterday and as he put it had his head bit off for not having IWT up and running thus allowing him
to do more Lapseing if it said hours could be saved. This fool of a DSM is telling my manager that from the figures he has we could lapse 160 hours a week
which is pie in the sky.
Now my Manager is of the same opinion as me and said we can't go by IWT yet, so we're not implimenting any new lapseing but where is the policing of all this, and why are RM, if they really want new ways of working together to really work,
Not coming down like a ton of bricks on these DSM's. Or is all the Talk of cooperation just smoke and mirrors.
Cheers

Re: Workshops
So it is not properly done yet then and should not be touched at the mo?The IWT has been up graded and will be tested in the Gatwick area within the next two weeks as live testing.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
