Re: Menu of duty options, Wheres wallington?
Ok, here goes
The DOM and the Rep agree what possible attendances will work in their D.O, the options should at the very least include the status quo and options for at least 1 in 4 sats off. For my D.O I want rotating day off and wallington to be included as we do a 5 day week fixed day off system (membership voted for that)
Those options go out to staff as part of the and I quote the term used in the national agreement non binding preference exercise. This exercise will capture other details other than attendance pattern options, such as your current hours and if you would like to change them ie FT to PT PT to FT. You may be putting down three preferences, in order There is a nonbinding preference exercise doc on this site.
This will then be used in the revision process, then the DOM/PLANNER/REP would develop duty sets that reflect these preferences as closely as operationally possible. So if there was a equal three way split between three different duty options then the aim would be to achive this but it might not be possible as the D.O may have a operational need for some duty sets that nobody expresses a preference for.
Revision goes to a vote and assuming its a yes vote a re sign takes place which is done for the most part in straight forward in seniority order. There may be a need to bump OPGs up if they cant drive, this should be monitored during the re pick. Also some OPG's may not be able to work certain duty types and need to stay on the status quo 5 day week.
There is no guarantee of what you will pick up in a re pick, unless you have advised mangement of the need and had that need accepted of a certain duty pattern.
Lets say 21 OPG's want a 9 day fortnight, which is a 4 person duty set, but the revision only manages to create three 9 day fortnight duty sets then 9 OPG's will not be on that type of duty even though they want to. This is why its a good idea to express a list of preferences in the order you prefer them. The revision can then take account of 2nd and 3rd preferences where nesscary so as to enable OPG's to have something they are reasonably happy with.

As in delivery route or attendandce days/hours?
If a duty has major change , then in the pot it goes
Most duties will incurr major change at some point during the three transformational plan.

Very, very unlikely mclovin, these changes will be massive and will most likely effect/change almost every duty in the office.
You may not even recognise your duty, never mind be able to keep it.
The only duties that have a chance of escaping change are rurals.

I would still like to know how we are going to carry out the revisions without the tools for the job. Here we go with the preference exercise, which would presumably fall in line with the actual "proposed" revision, which in turn would be dependent on having the HCT and CDVs in place or at least available before the preference revision takes place and then certainly for the majority the WSM revision arrives sooner or later which requires change again because the arrival of the mail is altered and so is the need for as much IPS, which in turn would lend itself to the outdoor element being increased IF full time jobs and the 75/25 split is to be preserved even partially.fishtank wrote:mclovin wrote:Would it be possible for most peeps to keep their own duty?

We then come to the preference for full or part time hours - I can see the change to PT but the preference for a PT to go FT .................... well the town hall steps are beckoning again.

Something like this would work...i think and before anybody starts i know it's not strictly i in 4 but you could take the extra Sat any time in the rotation but i put it where i would rather take it.

Re: Menu of duty options, Wheres wallington?
I already do enough hours and get enough time off with rest weeks. Why would I want to work longer some days (which means taking on more work) to get another one day off in every 3 months - every twelve weeks I have two Sats off , to make it 1in4 it means one extra day off is needed in that period. Is the 1 in 4 Sats off a compulsory part of a revision because it seems to be a complication we could do without (unless everyone in a rotation/floater set wants it of course).

We do the 1 in 6 off, and to be honest we don't see and easy way to get more Saturdays off, we do 8 hr days, and don't want longs and short if we can avoid it. We read the agreement as 1 in 4 is not compulsory, so we won't be pushing for it.

You don't have too do 1 in 4 Saturdays but make sure all of you in your office know that and vote for their preference accordingly!.trythat wrote:We do the 1 in 6 off, and to be honest we don't see and easy way to get more Saturdays off, we do 8 hr days, and don't want longs and short if we can avoid it. Re: Menu of duty options, Wheres wallington?
Be very careful what you wish for.
Ok,a lot do not want to work longer days for more time off,but please go through all options before you throw anything out.
The reason i say this is that those on a 4 day week 10hr day like some of us in London appreciate it's harder at times but the time off is such a massive carrot.
But it's not just the 4 day weeks, there are many options where you will have more time off.
Go through the lot,do dummie revisions and see what you get.
Judging by how the business works, this agreement could be the only one where you can get different duty structures, don't waste it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Look no one will force you to go to 1 in 4 saturdays off or less. You will if you choose stay on your wallington or other options.
However if you choose not to take the option you will still have a longer saturday as when sequencing comes to your office then you will get your second batch of work later.
