Absolutely! This used to go on before I came into the locker and now it doesn't. Anyone entering the locker should sign in and out - even a manager. I am surprised you have managed to escape the notice of the auditors.

Seem to get advance notice of audits and do it right for that day. When working normally, nobody uses the slope on the ramp outside, we all jump up onto the bay. Everyone carries too much, never use yorks correctly until the auditors are about.

But the way we wander in and pick up keys, van keys, pdas all our specials and wander out again is the worst bit i think. Well, apart from when we get a pre 9am special, which they then scan as p739 notice left, then deliver it later!! cheats.

We sign for keys, reg pda's ect,the way it should be.

Regarding recorded's,that service is a sham, just look in the customer forum, they should all be put in the cage and scanned in,too many posties taking the piss with them.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

dvbuk55 wrote: Sounds reasonable that - how do you go on with PDAs? We haven't enough and I send a couple of blokes out instead of sorting to get rid of some before the deliveries. Apparently the order for PDAs went in before the CDVs started and the instruction was one per van Locker and Callers - then of course the CDVs started and suddenly we are nine short.

No postie in my office has PDA. Inly drivers currently.

I guess my office is one of very few that are actually doing this, it certainly ensures all postman get a signuture for the item and not just posted through letterbox. How many will admit to shoving them through the hole without a mark?

Keys, Specials, PDAs, HCTs are all signed for by the receiving officer and it is invaluable in case of a dispute, accident, loss of keys etc - the only thing NOT signed for is cycles, although we now only use 6 and they are permanently appointed to the specific duty covered by the same bloke.

Often we sign for them, not always,.BUT...............its the free for all as soon as the phg has scanned them that gets me. If we waited and did it right, plus all other shortcuts stopped, any revision would see less hours to save, and less lapsing. Some day someone will lift a special thats not theirs and........well, who knows? Wrong procedure i think, we should be handed keys, pdas, specials, not helping ourselves and signing later. Too old fashioned?

I cant believe you can continue this way
we have had audits where we have been hit for minor stuff in the locker
having staff in the locker and a 'free for all' would be an audit shafter

In one of my old offices, the door started to play up in the RLE and not shut properly.

I was in there with a colleague and next thing, some random guy walks in. I pointed him out to my colleague who simply replied "never seen him before" and went back to his work. The guy was from IB and then gave us a b*llocking for the door being open. He also said he'd been able to walk all around the office unchallenged as if that was our fault too. When the IB guy stated that the door shouldn't have been left open for the RLE my colleague replied "I'm not passing the buck, but it wasn't me". Gee, thanks! It wasn't me either for that matter, but as there was only the 2 of us in there

We can't see the entrance (which shouldn't have been open anyway!) nor most of the office from that hatch so I disputed that and the manager who was in charge at the time took the blame for the door as he admitted he was the last one thru it.

And the manger SHOULD take the blame! Mentioned it today, saying , when we get hours pulled out in the revision we should bring it up, slow down the reckless processes and get the hours back. NOBODY CARED, just wanna get out the door fast to finish 20 min early, even though they start 30 mins before they should. They prep all d2d by Monday pm, frames full, madness. Here we go again!! Like i said, boss gets tip off of audits and all is by the book till he leaves.

I was only saying he took the blame as I know a few who wouldn't have!! He could've just said "I'll have a word with them" couldn't he? He's one of the few decent ones I've met.

I agree he is one of the good ones, and i think mine would do the same. Just wish my collegues would do things right, oh well, come the revision they will not get to rush about and finish ,in fact they may be waiting on normal mail at 9am, let alone specials.

In our office SDs are taken by the drivers. ALL RDs are taken by the man on the walk or the driver if it's for a firm on the PD duties. Never heard of RDs being scanned in the RLE BEFORE they go out, only when they are returned as P-739s. I've been in the same office all my service and it has always been done the same way.

I should point out, our "locker" is also the callers office, pda store, van and box key store , drop box key store and where public phone calls come. Never locked, ever.
