We all know the drill.

DOM appears in WTL and asks for input into how the office is run.

People speak up and the DOM makes excuses and moves on.

At the end of the day RM always get what they want. Maybe they have to play the waiting game but they always get it in the end.

5 years time expect everyone to be moved to part time with CWU recomendation.

Stodgy well this is something I dont agree with you on.

I realise its difficult to stand up to managers , but if people dont then you allow the manager to get away with things.

Before I was a rep in the late 80s I used to think our office was not strong enough and I did something about it. We became a strong office and if you keep your members informed and hold meetings and do your best by them as well as setting up a local office committee you do start to make the office strong.

Now my old office is strong and gets some good deals but that took a lot of work.

I really dont understand why people moan a lot on here but are not willing to make a difference in the workplace where it matters.

Managers often know the office they can take the piss in and the ones they cant.

An office without a rep or without members is a managers dream.

Before anyone blames the issue of local agreements for this , this has always been the case in most unions , CWU Hqs cannot be your baby sitter and do all your local stuff by remote control.

Instead it provides a framework to allow local variations by local agreement and lets face it , members want different things ie there are many on here who want to keep their wallingtons , some want longer spans , some dont , some want earnings some dont etc.

But please dont just moan , do something about it and help your local rep or become your local rep.

Packaname , you have such a chip on your shoulder , you want to get over it , the agreements in and the vast majority of members are staying in the union. Whatsmore the majority of members I speak to are confused that very little is happening at the moment in terms of revisions and of course people want the lump sums etc.

In the words of a old miners leader you either become a monument to change or you decide to shape the change.

You cannot shape change from the outside only the inside. If you decide to leave then you just get the same things introduced but you forsake your right to either moan or shout about it.

Well There aren't any mines, miners or miners union leaders left so I guess the answer is you become a monument to change.

You cannot shape change from the outside only the inside. If you decide to leave then you just get the same things introduced but you forsake your right to either moan or shout about it.

Well if this is what changing the shape of things brings................................ believe it or not dingo you do not forsake your right to moan or shout about it if you aren't in a union, in fact it's cheaper

Most of the nation's collieries have been closed, we are now at the mercy of foreign importers and gas and oil prices are rocketing. Our own gas reserves have been depleted at an alarming rate as we have squandered them in massive quantities in gas-fired power stations when we could have used coal. At the same time we have been squandering our indigenous coal reserves, with which this nation was blessed, by sterilising them in closed coal mines. At the same time we have been squandering the talents of our skilled workforce by making them redundant

The whole point of this thread was to try and give people who may not know an insight into the fact that Royal Mail"s plans for one outward plan and one inward plan which will drive the two way walk sequencing plan which will change not only the arrival of mail into your delivery office but the level of hours you have at various times of the day.

I was at a recent presentation by Richard Moor who is in charge of Royal Mail"s automation strategy and I have to say all the reps who were present and who were quite experienced were surprised at the level of detail which is now available in terms of batch arrivals and with the trials at Taunton and Gatwick and the recent deployment at Manchester and Coventry.

The batch system is hugely significant in regards to where your walk is situated, with firms in the norm being done first , then normally walks further away but ensuring CDVs are on the same batch.

Remember the change means that you will be missing up to 40% of your offices work up to as late as 10 in the morning. Of course the further you are away from your MPU the earlier you will recieve your work but not all walks within an office will recieve their walks together.

I am sorry Dvbuk but if your not in the union you can moan all you like it wont matter . Whilst I think site is a good vehicle for people to express their views it does not make or contribute to making union policy and does not stop either Royal Mail or the CWU .

Thats the facts and you know it.

The facts as you point out mean that a member or not makes no difference because union policy is dictated by Royal Mail and you cannot do anything about it. This site is populated by rank and file members and non-members of the union employed by Royal Mail. You are right to say that neither one will influence RM or the CWU.

If you read your post you will see precisely what others see. RM say this, RM are doing that, you will get your mail here and your hours will be such BUT NOT BY NEGOTIATION but by tacit agreement.

Do you know how you will enforce/maintain a 75/25 split, enforce any breaches in agreement and how much help there will be for smaller offices without local representation

To much sherry as I have posted that last thread on the wrong topic but dvbuk you never fail to disappoint.

I was trying to give you what Royal Mail`s plan is , I always have thought you need to know what that is in order for you to get your members what they want.

We in London have been doing that for years , you give a bit in order to get a lot. Sometimes you decide its not worth it and then dont give agree the deal with Royal Mail we have a proud history of that.

I dont hold any national postion I am elected by people from a particular divison and I attempt to support the Branch`s and reps in the best way I can and sometimes yo decide its time to do a deal , sometimes you decide its not and sometimes it`s time to have a fight.

Thats what being united is all about and last year in London we did that 20 times and we did not just do it for an agreement we did it to support others in London and to protect a voice in the workplace.

We are not along there are hundreds of other offices in all parts of the UK who stand up for themselves and fight , however sadly not as a division but fight they do.

I think your find all the offices who do that get better deals . Its the way of the world , you either stand together or you all act as indivduals and make it easier for Royal Mail.

Most of those who fight have had our arguements with the leadership not behind a keyboard but face to face either at meetings , AGMs where everyone is invited or conference . What we all have in common thou is we dont just think the union begins and ends at Union HQ, the union is only as strong as each workplace is and thats how the union has always been.

Dingo ,if the new deal and trust between the workers and management is to happen, why should they be trying to get away with things, and why should i be going to work expecting confrontation everyday.

Because any change in relationships takes time to find its way through to all levels. Equally a new relationship does not mean you dont have arguements but you attempt to resolve those disagreements in a different from either executive action or indeed industrial action.

Certainly at National postion the interfaces are attempting to take forward the new relationship ethos and I can see it begining at regional level.

However at DSM and Local level it will take time to filter through. After all you have to remember the DSM and DOM only take orders from their superiors either by meetings or conference calls.

Many are as unsure of the new agreement as many of our members. The Local revision workshop normally corrects this but not every office will have this straight away.

Dingo, might i suggest you cease to insult me and my views.

Suggesting i have a chip on my shoulder isnt wholly correct.

I would say it was more of a potato since I and thousands of others got sold down the river and shat on yet again by the 'winner and losers' union.

Good luck surviving privatisation, though

When the Governement sell the business to the workforce you'll be stiching up the owners of the business.

Cant you see? Govt sell business to the staff - staff ditch CWU as they own the business.

Writing is on the wall mate.

Dingo I ask again.

What if, after you have picked the attendance pattern that best suits you, you miss out after a repick and end up doing a shift that is not acceptable to you??

You cant possibly base everything around certain types of attendance then have a repick of new duties where others may change their mind, how can that possibly work??

Having asked around today people are saying if theyre not happy with the duty options then they'll change their mind on the repick and choose a different duty option to the one they stated in the preference exercise.

To me its all a bloody farce.
