These examples are not exhaustive and others may be developed locally that meet the objectives contained within the agreement.

Here are a number of examples of how at least one Saturday off in four can be achieved. The suitability of each of these options will vary from one unit to another.

The availability of each of these options shown in this menu will depend on local circumstances. There will no doubt be a mixture of options to achieve the objectives of the agreement and this will vary from unit to unit. No one size fits all.
You see? Its all a load of rubbish.

Your DOM will just say that none of the popular options are workable and therefore only the least palatable are available i.e. the options that favour Royal Mail the most.
Remember. Your rep doesnt work saturdays so it makes no odd to him/her.

But if there are ways of making the 1 in 4 work and the DOM cant see/wonty see that then the rep should be fighting to get the 1 in 4 for the members to have if they so wish.

The menu of options provide exactly that a menu of attendance patterns for your office to consider. There are other options.

Now you will only get the 1 in 4 Saturdays either by choosing to work later on a Saturday via the first revison or by waiting till you have a Walk sequencing revison.

Now packaname your not in the CWU but if you read the agreement , or you look at the local revision workshop or when you see the local revison guidelines which are almost complete then there is a ticklist which both sides sign and obviously that triggers the money and ensures that attendance patterns etc have been addressed..

If your in an office without cwu members then I am afaid you can only ask management as you have no other voice.

For all other offices then you must ensure that you are allowed the option of improved attendances.

Now when you have your walk sequencing revison you will know how much work you will have on your wave 1 arrival and at what time it is due , the ones for Whetstone in London the wave 1s will arrive from 04 30. You will also know what amount of work will be on wave 2 and what time , until the revison in N20 3 of the satellite office will only have walk sorted mail on the second arrival until the mail centre is structured right and the revison kicks in and the latest arrival is 08 45.

So you ensure that you have the right attendance patterns in , based on the workload.

Please dont moan about your delivery office manager saying you cant have it , make sure you do by not agreeing to any revison until they address this issue. If it gets raised up it will be sorted so dont accept your managements word , challenge it.

Ive read the agreement on several occasions and I didnt notice any tick boxes. Managers tick enough boxes on a daily basis for my liking anyway.

But like i pointed out above, the agreement doesnt allow staff to choose the attendance pattern.

It allows them to highlight a preferable pattern based on RM's offerings.

I think CWU members have been mislead on this one as a lot of people think they can collectively influence the menu of options.

Clearly this isnt the case.

The 1 in 4 is supposed to be part of the agreement and non negotiable. having viewed the menu it looks like that only holds true for full timers. unless even longer delivery spans enable part timers to be made full time and have 1 in 4 saturdays off.

Daz on the last page it says
units should arrive at the option that best meets the aspiration of staff and which is sustainable given the constraints within which the unit operates.
I'm right in thinking that your position is that the first part of this statment is completly and totally subordanate to the second part.

Dingo What are the delivery spans for these diffrent options????? it's way past time we were told!

Don't mention B&H pick, you know we don't speak about such things.
Can you spot B&H in this recent photo from the 5 months negotiations? :chuckle

There isnt a fixed delivery span anymore, or has it made a miraculous return from the dead :hmmmm

Menu of options says spans must be looked at in the context of an enabler rather than as a fixed amount of time to be aimed at.

For my D.O I see no reason why the 9 day fortnights (6 and 3) can not work for the PT who are all apart from one are on 30 hour contracts.

Mon Tue 6 hour 30 min days, Wed to Sat 6 hour 45 min days over the 4 weeks period it evens out as 120 hours (4 X 30 hours)

belle, in answer to your subordanate question, yes and no its not a postion as such but merely a reconition of reality based on the wording in the agreed options document. Whether I like that reality is neither here nor there it is the reality I as a rep have to work within. What needs to happen is to identify what ways are possible to bring in1 in 4 sats off and it is clear that the powers that be in the CWU belive this will vary from D.O to D.O. Let me give you a example,

For my D.O options requiring Sat only PT is a no goer we dont have any, but for D.O 's that do then those type of attendances may well be a viable option.

My D.O has 9 X 30 hour OPG's of which a third are ex 40 Hour OPG's and 1 X 20 hour OPG and 1 X 32 hour OPG position which is a floater duty that is vacant.

To me once you have every type of 1 in 4 sat off duty structure that can work in your D.O, you move to the survey which I belive has been posted on this site.

When thats done you try and develop duty sets around the preferences. As stated earlier today the number of preferences for each option will play a part in deciding if they make to the revision proposals that go out to vote.

Its gonna be a bit like a jigsaw puzzle trying to get all the preferences to fit together.

Just as a little side issue.
What happens with pay when you work 52Hrs one week and then 26Hrs the next?
I assume that both weeks you would be paid 39hrs.......or would you because if you went sick on the second short week mon-wed and didn't return until the following monday how many days sick would that be?......3 or 7. :confused  :hmmmm

TBH, we haven't even looked at a revision, any options or 1 in 4 Saturdays, it is a daunting task with so many part timers, 25 hour duties spread over 3 days shared by 2 people, 20 hours, 30 hours, 31.5 hrs and 40 hours, Park and Loopers with full and part time splits, job shares over 6 days ....................... no one seems to be in the groove for change - our office is supposed to be in the van and we were supposed to bring it in this August it's now October but it's more like to be next October. The WS Machines were supposed to be installed for January but who knows....................before the agreement it was a certainty and now it's on hold.

What if, after you have picked the attendance pattern that best suits you, you miss out after a repick and end up doing a shift that is not acceptable to you??

You cant possibly base everything around certain types of attendance then have a repick of new duties where others may change their mind, how can that possibly work??

Its not going to work 'cause its a con.

Think back to Network 2007 when they said the mail will arrive later at DO's because of a speed restriction.

They moved us to 6am instead of 5am starts and we lost our shift allowance (or at least new entrants did and we kept ours as part of the 'protected' pay)

They then supposedly had problems getting the mail organised so moved us back to 530 starts and 620 on mon tues. We then had saturdays reverted back to 5am.

This was all a con to remove the early shift allowance.

This has now been removed completely under the new agreement.
Dont believe anything RM or CWU tell you as they are the same animal now.

We're having a vote on the menu of options soon, and the plan is to introduce a revision and CDV's before November. What we'll actually end up with I don't know, but as far as i'm concerned anything that means i'll be working less days will be fine.

The planner spoke to us this week and said he'll need input from everyone regarding the new duties, as there's no way that just running them through pegasus/Georoute and saying 'these are the duties' will work.

So as far as our office is concerned RM are sticking to the agreement so far, we have a good planner and a decent new DOM (decent as in he's never seen :chuckle ), plus we don't let RM take the p*ss and never have.

Some offices need to grow some balls and complain to management as much as they do on here. You have to push for the things you want, or you'll end up with whatever you're given.
